palm harbor fl localism: Cover those Plants Tonight !!! - 01/02/08 01:58 AM
Even here in sunny Florida, we are getting some of that Arctic Chill that is sweeping our nation! Tonight and perhaps again tomorrow night, we will need to cover plants that cannot take freezing weather! While many of you think plastic bags, remember that anywhere the plastic touches the plant can cause frost bite on the plant!
The best way to cover your plants is with blankets, towels, sheets - and then you can put plastic on top of that! Also, those Christmas lights, wrapped around limbs can help keep your plants warm! Flood lights are also good!
I used to … (0 comments)

palm harbor fl localism: More Wall Springs Park Photos - 11/23/07 09:24 AM
Here are more photos taken at Wall Springs Park last weekend. This first one is looking out into the estuary that leads to St Joseph's Sound. This area was full of small birds fishing along the shore in the shallow waters.

This shot of the springs shows how isolated the actual former swimming area is. There is such lush vegetation surrounding the place that it is a photographer's paradise!

I love this shot of the Juniper berries and the water plants along the shoreline! Blue skies and sunshine! Who could ask for more?

Like so many of … (4 comments)

palm harbor fl localism: The Changing Face of Palm Harbor - 11/18/07 02:11 PM
Palm Harbor is growing constantly! The sleepy little town with it's small homes is developing and we are finding more and more luxury homes in this part of Pinellas County! Most of these homes are off on side streets where they have some privacy, so you need to know where to look- but they are definitely there and more of these communities are developing all the time.

If you are looking for a quiet home in an up and coming area along the Gulf Coast that is close to the metropolitan areas of Tampa/St Petersburg/Clearwater than Palm Harbor is the … (6 comments)

palm harbor fl localism: Sonny's Bar-b-que in Palm Harbor - 10/23/07 09:41 AM
If you live in the Southeastern United States, you have heard of Sonny's! They have some of the best bar-b-que at reasonable prices! While most people love their chicken wings (Bill loves them) I personally am not a wing fan - however, I do love their slow smoked pulled pork! That with a serving of corn bread and sweet potatoes can make any day turn into a bright day!
They also have wonderful baby back ribs that will melt in your mouth! And if that isn't enough, save room for the fruit cobbler desserts or the banana pudding!!! If you are … (8 comments)

palm harbor fl localism: Florida Living In Ozona - 10/22/07 02:40 PM
Just west of downtown Palm Harbor is the little town of Ozona - I remember when I was a kid, it was a little fishing village with not much else there. The houses were small, cheap and if they had air conditioning at all, it was the little window units. That sure is not the case anymore! Now enormous waterfront homes have taken over-

Homes that have private waterfront driveways with great views of the Gulf of Mexico -

Florida living at it's best - right on the water! Sun, sand, gulf breezes - and no state income … (0 comments)

palm harbor fl localism: Downtown Palm Harbor, Florida - 10/22/07 02:05 PM
Downtown Palm Harbor is a really neat place! It is small, quaint, and a place that only locals know about! You can find the most unusual shops there - everything form antique shops, book stores, florist shops, cafes and restaurants. The downtown area is located a stone's throw from the Gulf of Mexico - it is directly east of Alt 19.

You even find unusual murals on the local buildings in downtown Palm Harbor!!!

I love the look of this barber shop - you just don't see them like this anymore!

And, of course, there is an Irish Pub!!!

But this is my … (0 comments)

palm harbor fl localism: Oak Trail Books and The Witches' Brew Cafe in Old Palm Harbor - 10/20/07 01:37 AM
Yesterday I drove over to one of my favorite places: Oak Trail Books and The Witches' Brew Cafe in downtown Old Palm Harbor - Old Palm Harbor is the original center of what is today known collectively as Palm Harbor. 'Old' Palm Harbor is that core of the town that really has historical significance!
I had actually decided on this particular trip because I wanted to meet Loretta Buckner -of By Referral Only fame- and this is the perfect place to go if you want to meet someone! By the way, it was a most interesting meeting - I found someone … (8 comments)
