donna foerster: National Vodka Day - 10/04/16 05:42 AM
National Vodka Day

It seems we have quite a few unusual "holidays" to celebrate. I just came across, National Vodka Day. It's October 4th. I have no idea why. When I googled National Vodka Day I found a great website, but they didn't have any idea either!
According to the website, there are over 100 different flavors of vodka including some savory and some sweet. I think I would like Root Beer, Espresso or Fluffed Marshmellow, but not so sure about Bacon or Smoked Salmon.
According to PartyExcuses.com, October 4th is Cinnamon Roll Day, World Animal Day, Golf Lovers Day, Toot Your Own Flute … (4 comments)

Enjoy It Yourself!

How old is your home? 10 years? 15? Older? Are there things in your home that are outdated, or maybe there isn't enough living space? Do you have adequate outdoor space for entertaining in the summer? If you convert an extra bedroom in to a home office do you run out of guest space?
When someone thinks about selling their home, they start to think about the things that the buyer for their home might want...granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, a finished basement, a trex deck. Maybe new exterior or interior paint.
Here's my question. Why not get those projects done BEFORE … (7 comments)

donna foerster: Don't Be Random - 09/28/16 08:33 AM
Don't Be Random
You've seen the bumper sticker, "practice random acts of kindness". That's great. Spreading kindness is never a bad thing. What I'm suggesting is to be "intentional" about it, not random. Make up your mind to go out and do good deeds.
All too often we get wrapped up in ourselves, what we're doing, where we're going. Slow down. Notice those around you who might be in need of a kindness. It doesn't need to be anything huge. It can be as simple as holding the door open, thanking the clerk when he/she hands you your change, giving up your seat … (18 comments)

Sunday Musings
I find I'm getting better at hiding things from myself. Are you good at that? I think where I put it makes sense, but it must only make sense in that one moment and never again.
Have you ever gone looking for one thing and found something else? That's how we found our GPS that had been missing for 3 or 4 years!
Did you ever notice that when you open up all the windows in your home that it starts to rain?
When do you remember you left cash in the pants pocket? When you find $20 in the clothes dryer after … (7 comments)

What did you do today? I moved the library!

About a month ago, Rich and I registered to be part of the bookworm. What's that you ask? I long line of humans (the library guestimated about 1200 people registered) to pass books from the old library to the new library (a little bit less than a mile apart).
At 10:00 am, we started passing 21 books. Why 21? To represent the age of the old library which opened in 1995. Among the books were: Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss, Agatha Christie's Miss Marple, The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins … (8 comments)

Walk the Talk!
Earlier this week, I reblogged a post by Marte Cliff entitled, What's the most impressive thing you can put in a mailbox? Answer: A handwritten thank you note. She even provided some suggestioned "situations" that would warrant a thank you note. Very helpful.
I think this is an important activity, but do I do it on a regular basis? Answer: No. Time to practice what I preach, or "walk the talk".
Last Saturday I walked in the Denver Walk to End Alzheimer's. This is an annual event and one I've participated in since 1999! This year I raised more than $1000 for the … (8 comments)

If you've been reading my blog the last few weeks you know I've been spending some time on Pinterest. I recently came across a list that piqued my curiosity, 20 FREE Things to do to Make You Happy. Here are my top FIVE favorites.
Take a Hike
I find that going for a walk with someone, or by myself is refreshing. It's a great opportunity to clear my head. I always feel somewhat "lighter" after a walk (I don't hike!).
Watch a Movie
I love watching movie marathons on tv with my hubby. We get some snacks and get comfortable on the … (10 comments)

A Stroll in the Gardens

The Denver Botanic Gardens had a FREE Day for folks 50 and older yesterday, so we took advantage of the lovely weather and the beautiful "park". Once you get through the entry gate, a volunteer offers you a map. This is highly recommended. The Gardens are located on 24 acres and you can very easily get yourself lost!

We were interested in flowers, shubbery and landscaping ideas that we could use in our front and back yards. Of course we were also admiring anything that was pretty! We were very surprised to find a flowering plant with the … (6 comments)

Moving Forward
We can't rewrite the past. The best we can do is learn from it. We must then go forward.
There are times in my life when I feel like I've stalled. That I'm standing still. I spend too much time on one thing, over thinking, over planning. Meanwhile nothing is happening. I'm stuck. This can happen with something simple such as a writing a blog post, or something much bigger such as personalizing our website. I tend to over think just about everything.
When this happens, I'm reminded of a phrase that I first heard from a colleague. I'm not sure if … (20 comments)

donna foerster: How Do You Define Success? - 09/03/16 08:36 AM
How Do You Define Success?
I asked this question in the Q&A section earlier today. Several of the answers were similar. Seems many of us define success individually, meaning that success is not the same for everyone. For many success is defined by achievement, generally of one's goals.
While spending a bit of time on Pinterest I came across several quotes that "define" success.
"The secret of getting ahead is getting started." -Unknown
"Failure is not the opposite of success. It is part of success." -Unknown
"Success is ot the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love wha tyou are doing, … (25 comments)

Things To Do in Parker, CO: Parker Oktoberfest 2016
Have you ever wondered why Oktoberfest is in September? I have! Here's the short answer:
Oktoberfest began in Munich, Germay on October 12, 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese. It became an annual event. Since the weather in October can be miserably cold, the celebration was moved to September! Makes sense to me!

Founded and hosted by the CACC (Council of Arts, Science and Culture) formerly the PAC (Parker Arts Council) and presented by Erdinger Weissbrau, the authentic German brewing company, the 11 Annual Parker Oktoberfest promises to bring … (4 comments)

Parker, Colorado: This Town LOVES Its Residents

If you ask 10 different people, "What do you LOVE about where you live?" you will likely get varying answers. Location. School district. Amenities. Home values.
Most of the folks that live in Parker will tell you it's the small town feel. I've written blog posts before about the reasons folks love to live here, interesting facts, my top 10 things I love. In this post I want to share something that is very important to me and makes Parker special.

Serendipity Sunday: Art in the Park
On Friday night we noticed tents going up in the park in Downtown Parker. What was that about, we wondered. Well this morning we found out the answer. Celebrating 15 years of fine art, the Parker Arts Guild was hosting Art in the Park. An exhibition of local artisans in the categories of paint, photography, glass, wood, metal, jewelryy, pottery and more! Admission was free, parking was free and the weather was lovely...no rain (while we were there) and mild temperatures.
We strolled along and admired all the artwork. We made one purchase at the very end … (3 comments)

Motivational Monday: Determination and Satisfaction
I've started "playing" on Pinterest again. I've got to be careful and bide my time so it doesn't become a time vampire. Does anyone else have that challenge? Anyhoo, I was scrolling along looking for quotes that resonated with me. I came across this...

"Wake up with DETERMINATION. Go to bed with SATISFACTION."

This is my happy place. To wake up in the morning, determined to make a difference, to have a good day, to be successful, to be kind, to manage my health.
And my goal every night is to go to bed satisifed in the knowledge that I … (6 comments)
