Summer AR Meetup: Metro Denver, Colorado
It's always a good time when ActiveRain members get together and our meetup last Monday was no different! We had a wonderful turnout and a lovely evening!
Dick and Mary Greenberg made the drive down from Fort Collins to be with us. (My first time meeting Mary!) The rest of us dealt with the local highway and byway traffic to get together and share good times!
Belinda Spillman, Erin Bates and Dan Spencer were among the first to arrive. Keith Smith and his wife Dawn joined the party, along with Ruth Vogt and Andrea Bayern (brand … (28 comments)

Serendipity Sunday: A Special Blessing
Sometimes while I'm reading and commenting on posts, I'll come across something that inspires me to write my own post. Such was the case today. Debbie Reynolds wrote her Serendipity Sunday post and invited her readers to join her. OK, I thought, what's involved? Debbie plans to write each Sunday about a special blessing in her life. OK, I can do that.
What am I most thankful for today? I am thankful for a sense of peace. I was able to steal away a few hours today to go to the pool with a neighbor and … (14 comments)

I Had To Do Something!

You are bound to call me crazy after reading this post and that's ok with me! Sometimes you just have to do something and call it good!

When was the last time you did something for the first time?

I asked this question in a blog post on July 7th. I pledged that I would do "something" for the first time before the month was over. I'm very proud to say, that I met my goal. What, you may ask, did I do? Let me tell you a story to explain.
The end of … (24 comments)

Dessert with Donna: Peach Cobbler
I'm really not much of a cook, or a baker, however as I get older, I'm trying new things. Today we are having a fellowship picnic/bbq with our Rotary Club. It's basically a potluck. This go around I decided I'd opt for dessert. So the big question...store bought, or homemade? When I put my name on the list I just committed to dessert, which gave me a lot of options.
Several years ago, I found a super easy recipe in the All Star Feast Cookbook, compiled by Wendy Diamond. I've only tried 2 of the 100+ … (20 comments)

Aw, The Views In Our Suburban Neighborhood
We live in a suburban, cookie-cutter neighborhood. We are fortunate to back to the golf course and we have great views of the mountains and the city, and a nice (although small) deck. When we moved here about 7 1/2 years ago we were looking for a ranch style plan, new construction with a nice yard. The views were a bonus.
While driving through our neighborhood we often have "deer sightings". Not sure where the bed down for the night, but we see them out for breakfast, lunch or dinner during the day. We've … (25 comments)

Long Lost AR Friends
Recently, 2 of my long lost ActiveRain friends have resurfaced...HURRAY! I've missed them both and I'm thrilled to see their faces back in the blog roll!

I had lunch with a good friend, Ruth Vogt earlier this week. She's the gal that introduced me to the world of blogging and ActiveRain! She's been missing from the Rain for almost 3 years!!! Ironically, the last post she wrote was about me! I'm super excited that's she back. She's also planning to attend the AR meetup I'm hosting on August 11th! She'll be re-engaged in no time! She wrote … (40 comments)

I Asked For Help, You Came To My Rescue!
Yesterday I attended a meeting to brainstorm some ideas for fundraising. I had a few of my own, but wanted to come to the meeting with a strong list of suggestions. (Seems I was the only one who did!)
Since Fundraising Can Be A Challenge...For Me, I wrote a blog post to ask for AR member support in putting my list together and I was not disappointed!
Here's the list we came up with. Thought I would share it just in case someone else need some fresh ideas for their fundraising efforts. … (16 comments)

Wishful Wednesday: If I Had 3 Wishes

Last night as I was getting ready for bed, I was thinking about blogging for today. What can I write about? It's going to be Wednesday. Last week I wrote a "Wisdome Wednesday" post. Can't really do a "Wordless Wednesday", I've always got something to say! LOL! How about a "Wishful Wednesday"? Yeah, that's it.

If I had a fairy Godmother and she granted me 3 wishes today, what would they be?

Things to do at Tagawa Gardens: August 2014

I enjoy shopping at Tagawa Gardens. During my last visit in early July, I wandered around the indoor gift shop. They had many wonderful and unique items including yard art and decor; gardening clothes, tools and hats; greeting cards, pillows and pottery. And as you can tell from the photo, outdoor furniture!
After perusing for a bit, I ended up purchasing a lovely brass and glass hummingbird feeder! I had a cheap plastic one from last year and decided I needed an upgrade. My sister claims she saw a hummingbird when she was visiting, but I still have … (6 comments)

Did You Know? 7 Stages of Alzheimer's Disease
As a volunteer for the Alzheimer's Association, I continue to learn more and more about the disease. I believe it is often misunderstood. Many believe it's something that only affects older adults and that it is strictly about memory loss.
I was first impacted by Alzheimer's when my grandmother has it more than 15 years ago. She was in Florida and I was in Colorado and I felt helpless. That's when I began volunteering to raise awareness about the disease and the resources available to persons and families living with the disease and … (65 comments)

Thoughtful Thursday: Successful Living

Don't be shocked. I came across this quote on Pinterest. I know, unusal, right? OK, so I might be a little bit addicted to Pinterest. I also might have a thing for cool quotes. Here's what I found this morning:

"Instructions for Successful Living: Dream It. Plan It. Do It. Repeat."
~Dr. Steve Maraboli

We all want to be successful, right? This applies to business and life in general, no matter how big or how small. The quote spoke to me because it has 4 easy steps. I'm going to use a LIFE example … (24 comments)

Are You Making a Difference?

In true tradition, I'm writing a reminder about the July AR Contest that I'm hosting, What Have You Done to Make a Difference in You Community? We're about half way through the month and I have 32 entries (and I've read every one of them)!

What the contest about, you ask? Well, you could click on the link in the first paragraph and that'll tell you all about it, but I'll make it easy!
Step 1: Write a blog post about something you've done, are doing and would like to do to make a … (6 comments)

Words Of Wisdom: Planning

I've been spending a lot of time on Pinterest lately. One of my favorite things to look for are great, inspirational quote. Seems that most of what I find doesn't include the author, so unfortunately I can't give credit, where I believe credit it due! Here's a quote I found this morning.

"My entire life can be described in one sentence: It didn't go as planned and that's ok."
~Author Unknown

In other words, planning isn't all it's cracked up to be! LOL! Sure, we like to think we're in charge of our own … (8 comments)

What's For Dessert? Nothing Bundt Cakes!
Whatever the occasion, there's nothing better than a cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes!
We were first introduced to Nothing Bundt Cakes at a volunteer appreciation party for one of the local chambers. It was fall and their features flavor was pumpkin. I was hooked! Since that time we've tried most of their flavors, but our favorite is red velvet!
Their cakes come in different sizes. The smallest, bundtinis, come in a dozen. We picked up a dozen for dessert for a monthly poker party last year. Those bite-sized morsels were a huge hit! The next … (8 comments)

Know the 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's Disease
Rich and I have been volunteering for the Alzheimer's Assocation for 15+ years. We do our best each year to raise awareness and monies to fight this terrible disease that effects more than 60,000 Coloradans and their families.

Through a series of "Did You Know" blog posts, we hope to educate the public and motivate others to do what they can to support the cause to fight Alzheimer's.

Remember that early detection matters, so be aware of the warning signs:
1. Memory loss that disrupts daily life
2. Challenges in planning … (4 comments)

Shopping Spotlight: Parker Country Market

Looking for a unique item for you home, or a special gift for a birthday, anniversary or house warming? Parker Country Market is the place to go! Summer is the best time of year to explore the "shops" that make up the Parker Country Market.

Each of the dealers has their own shop and features different items. Inventory is changing frequently. If you find something you like, get it because it may not be there on your next visit! The Parker Country Market offers the convenience of shopping many vendors in one … (7 comments)

Restaurant Spotlight: Parker, Colorado: Brick House Tap & Tavern

Meet Me for a Meal or Some Networking!
When it comes to lunch or dinner in Parker, Colorado, there are many choices. Earlier this week we met a friend for lunch at the Brick House.
My favorite thing about the Brick House is the menu. There's a good variety including snacks, burgers, pizza, salads, sandwiches and "meats". Included in the "meats" portion of the menu are items like fish & chips, bbq baby back ribs and chicken fried steak! They also have a great drink menu, but we didn't partake at … (6 comments)
