The annual La Canada High School 7/8 PTA Home Tour is coming upon us on May 7th. The proceeds from this much anticipated event benefit the La Canada 7th and 8th grade PTA. Four local residents open their wonderful homes, with docent-lead tours from 9 am to 2 pm and again from 4 to 8 pm. One home will offer boutique shopping, music performed by students from the LCHS music department, and al fresco luncheon (served from 11 am to 2 pm). If you have been watching the news over the past several days, you have probably seen the news about certain Los Angeles area neighborhoods being evacuated due to the rains causing possible mudslide danger. One such neighborhood is La Canada Flintridge, where we live and work. Many communities have an Emergency Notification System (commonly called a Reverse 911 system). This system is used to notify residents of emergencies in their neighborhoods, including warnings and alerts. In a vote directly related to the economy, La Canada Flintridge residents have voted to approve Measure LC, giving the award-winning La Canada School District a much-needed influx of funds. Measure LC provides for a parcel tax of $150 per parcel, per year for each of the next five years. There is a Senior Exemption for residents age 65 and older, and and exemption for owners of contiguous parcels owned by the same owner (so that owner pays the tax once for the contiguous parcels). This weekend is the annual Fiesta Days celebration in La Canada Flintridge. There are events scheduled throughout the weekend. Today you can go to "Afternoon In The Park" which includes a Food Court, Games, Music and more at La Cañada Memorial Park from noon to 3:30 p.m. Tonight is the Family BBQ, Music and Fireworks Show at Memorial Park. During this week, on your regular trash day, bulky waste can be placed and the curb and it will be picked up FREE OF CHARGE!
