Here are some photos from a nice afternoon hike enjoyed at the 8,200 acre Minnewaska State Park which is located in the Shawangunk Mountains in New York. The Shawangunks are a little south of the Catskills. There are 30 acres of hiking trails at the park. Photos are from November 1, 2008. I really like the texture of the water in this shot...
For some reason, I like the stark beauty of the bare trees in the foreground...
The cliffs are amazing. What a beautiful, crisp, cool fall day!

These pictures are from a hike at Sam's Point in the Shawangunk Mountains in New York. This 4,600 acre area contains ridgetop dwarf pine barrens and is also home to 40 rare species of plants and animals. This particular hike is from the Verkeerderkill Falls trail. As you can see, this was a very scenic trail. The footing was quite rocky. I just loved the view at the waterfalls - heaven on earth! These pictures are from a hike at Sam's Point in the Shawangunk Mountains in New York. The Shawangunks are a little south of the Catskills. I just love hiking and climbing on the rocks. Being outdoors in the crisp autumn air sure is a treat! Nothing beats being ontop of a mountain (with or without snow!)!

These pictures are from a hike at Sam's Point in the Shawangunk Mountains in New York. The Shawangunks are a little south of the Catskills. This particular hike is from the trails at the Ice Caves. The caves were much smaller than I had expected, but it was still cool (literally!) to walk through them. It was interesting to feel how much the temperature dropped outside the caves the closer you got to them. There were many large rocks to climb over and crevices to peek through and play in. What a wonderful afternoon! I like this picture!

Here are some photos from a hike at the 8,200 acre Minnewaska State Park which is located in the Shawangunk Mountains in New York. The Shawangunks are a little south of the Catskills. There are 30 acres of hiking trails at the park. There was a nice waterfall, a lake, some jagged rock faces and some nice scenic overlooks. The trails are easy and quite scenic. I was very surprised at how much color there was on the trees for November 1st! The 'calm' before the storm...

Smuggler's Notch, Vermont is just such a beautiful place that I wanted to post some additional photos from my hike two weeks ago. What an absolutely incredible place - the rock formations are amazing and the views are simply spectacular. I really want to do a lot more exploration. My dream is to pitch a tent and sleep out under the stars at the highest point in Vermont. My, I feel small next to that boulder!
Interesting how a little change in perspective can make such a big difference. Boulder doesn't look so big now, does it?

I would like to share some pictures with you from breathtakingly beautiful Smugglers Notch which is located between the towns of Stowe and Jeffersonville, Vermont. There is also a ski resort with the same name. The road closes at the first snowfall each season because it becomes impassible. Cars that try to make it through the notch in winter usually stay there til spring! Seriously! A few times each year, some brave idiots try to make it through 'The Notch' and get stuck - too bad. The notch has a few hairpin twists that are barely wide enough for one car … (11 comments)
