west virginia: I am thankful for the West Virginia Mountains, Post #8 - 11/19/17 09:37 PM

Yes, I am a Mountain Mama…. I love the mountains here!. I remember driving back from Florida a few years ago with my brother.  When we both saw the Appalachian mountains, it was a sight to behold!

I like the ocean and beaches, but not the flatness of the land. I need mountains, rolling hills, creeks, rivers, lakes…. My roots are here in West Virginia. The natural beauty and the hills is what I missed.  After 35 years I returned. My husband, also a West Virginian, and I returned to our roots and built our retirement home.  I am thankful to … (14 comments)

west virginia: Today marks the 149th birthday of the Mountain State - 06/20/12 04:07 AM

June 20 is the first day of Summer, but it is also the day West Virginia was granted statehood in 1863.  West Virginia broke away from Virginia during the American Civil War and became a new state when admitted to the Union on June 20, 1863.  Today marks the 149th birthday of the Mountain State. West Virginia is noted for its mountains and diverse topography, its historically significant logging and coal mining industries, and its political and labor history. It is one of the most densely karstic areas in the world (an area of irregular limestone in … (17 comments)

west virginia: A Breath of Mountain Air, Come Home to West Virginia - 01/08/12 10:55 AM

"A Breath of Mountain Air, Come Home to West Virginia" is the title of a new music video by Darrell Ramsey.  The lyrics give a good description of West Virginia Pride...."deeper than a hollow, brighter than the sun...." and the photos depict the state and great mountains of West Virginia.

There have been quite a few music videos of West Virgina.  The one that comes to mind is "Almost Heaven West Virginia" by John Denver.  And I put  Ramsey's video, the music, lyrics and vocal right there with John Denver's "Almost Heaven" video.

I hope you enjoy … (14 comments)

Diary of a Realtor - Why I Chose Real Estate?

First, I need to give you a little background about my parents.  My parents were hard working folks. My mother had given birth to 12 children.  I was the ninth child.  (In the photo to the right, I was three years old.)   She was a great mother, who never worked outside the home.  Of course, with raising the kids, cooking and cleaning she never had time to think about another job.  I  remember when I was 18, mom and I went to Florida.  She was actually thinking … (28 comments)

The weather here in Lewisburg, West Virginia is not as bad as it was this time last year.  The temperature is around 25 degrees and only about five inches of snow compared to last years snow fall of over 25 inches.  I was reading Andrea Swiedle and Steve Loynd's post today and was amazed at the snow fall Connecticut and New Hampshire has....New England really got some snow as well as many other areas on the East Coast.
My two younger sisters lives in Charlotte, NC and their work was closed because of the inclement weather.  And, … (15 comments)

Wordless Wednesday, Not Really - Getting Ready for Winter

The weather report for this Friday calls for snow in parts of West Virginia.  These squirrels know and are preparing for winter.
Just before sitting down to breakfast at Lana and John Martindale in Summersville, WV, this morning, I had a fun time watching the squirrels gathering and hiding nuts for the winter.  They were just adorable.  I tried to get photos of them standing, but by camera was  too slow (time for a new one).

My winter preparation was completed last month.....winter … (16 comments)

A Unique Shopping Experience at the Greenbrier's Art Colony, Part 8, Christie's Signature Art

At Christie's Signature Art, you will find Michael Christie, an artist in residence, at the Greenbrier's Art Colony.  Michael's studio has been at the Greenbrier since 2007.  His ability to capture the essence of his subjects offers a gift that is twofold; it sparks an emotional connection to the viewer and is what drives Michael to create.  His unguarded perspectives accentuate the spirituality he sees in everyday life.  Michael aspires to translate the eloquence of language into the visual poetry of painting.  He finds comfort … (5 comments)

west virginia: Dogs are not allowed in the swimming area.....OH NO! - 09/02/10 12:48 AM

On Sunday, my husband and I decided to take our chocolate lab, Zeke, to Blue Bend Recreation Park at Monongahela National Forest.  We have been there many times, and I even wrote a post on our first visit at Blue Bend with Zeke.
We were having a great time, enjoying a picnic and playing with Zeke in the water.  He loves to play "fetch" anyplace, anywhere, anytime.

After spending about two hours of playing "fetch"  in the river, a forest ranger approached my husband and warned us that dogs are not allowed in the water were … (14 comments)
