fishhawk lake seasons: Friday's Fotos--Remembering Summers on Fishhawk Lake - 12/15/17 03:07 PM

This particular home I called “The Treehouse”, is a lakefront property I listed and sold years ago and the boys that inhabit it love to use their front yard and there have been times after school’s out that I see them running down from the house onto their expansive lakefront area, running pellmell straight for the water! It’s one of my most favorite scenes to watch as I cruise along on my pontoon on Fishhawk Lake during the summer months.

On this rather dreary wet and cold December day, I decided I needed a summer pick-me-up. Thanks for indulging me!

fishhawk lake seasons: Fishhawk Lake Spring Brings Gifts! - 04/23/17 10:46 AM
Being born in spring, I can attest to the joys that come from everything "waking up" after winter's slumber. Watching birds borrowing pieces of hay for nest-building, hearing the "buggle-BEener" of the Red-winged Blackbird, seeing flocks of geese head south in V-formation and watching birds that suddenly appear in April are some of the grandest gifts that Mom Nature brings to our back door.
My husband and I can sit at our dining room table and be entertained for hours by the creatures that grace our deck while indulging in the fare that I present to them. Easter Sunday brought me an … (19 comments)

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-Ten Questions Buyers Ask
A Series
Question #2

Q:What are the seasons like at Fishhawk Lake?
A:Many clients come from other states and ask about the weather patterns here because they are looking for milder temperatures, less heat or more seasons when exploring places to buy a 2nd home or retire. I recently had a client in AZ who is specifically looking to be able to enjoy the outside and not be stuck in air-conditioning 24/7!  He also asked about global warming as that’s a concern of his, too. I haven’t seen that occurring here at Fishhawk Lake in the 7-8 years … (8 comments)

fishhawk lake seasons: Don't make me go out and show homes....it's too HOT! - 07/02/15 07:23 AM
Don't make me go out and show homes....it's too HOT!
People talk about the weather ad nauseum so I DO try to steer clear of it most of the time, but when I have to plan around outfits that won't show sweat lately  (as an older "babe" who gets ALOT hotter than I used to....however you want to take that) this year has been a queer one--weatherwise.
On the one hand, I can tell my potential buyers how fabulous it is to come to the lake because we are 6-12 degrees cooler than in Portland, but when showing homes, being visibly flushed and waving … (21 comments)

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-Answering Buyers Questions-The Seasons

What are the seasons like at Fishhawk Lake? How hot does it get? Do you need air conditioning? Does it snow?

I have many buyers contacting me from very warm climates like Southern California, Arizona, Texas and even Florida who are looking for a milder climate in the summer months or they simply want a variety of seasons. We have people from all over the country that have property here, but the inquiries most often come from these states or from people in the Portland area who want to make a quick trip to their "vacation … (16 comments)

fishhawk lake seasons: Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-Not everyone wants a Sun-day every day! - 03/14/15 12:50 PM
 Fishhawk Lake Real Estate
Not everyone wants a Sun-day every day!
Now, you might have taken this differently, but I am actually talking about those people who don't want to live in "sun" every single day of their lives. And that's why they call me from Arizona and California (Florida, too) to seek out "seasons", rainy days actually are on their wishlist! I often get asked, "Does it snow?"
Well, being about 600 feet above sea level in the coastal range of Oregon, we are about 6-12 degrees cooler than Portland and so we often get snow when parts of … (11 comments)

fishhawk lake seasons: Fishhawk Lake-Cabins on the Lake in February - 02/14/15 04:03 AM
Fishhawk Lake-Cabins on the Lake in February
Looking to buy or sell a cabin on the lake for your sweetheart?
There are always some pretty and sunny days in February on Fishhawk Lake. Yesterday, the 13th, showed us an inkling of spring with the temperatures warming up, the lingering spot of mist high in the tree tops and the colorful morning skies.

When there is no wind it presents a lovely "Lake Reflection" for lakefront cabins on Fishhawk Lake. At least 3 of the five shown here I have sold to new owners in the last 2-3 years!
Maybe … (14 comments)

fishhawk lake seasons: Fishhawk Lake-December and January Mornings and Evenings - 01/06/15 04:08 PM
Fishhawk Lake-December and January Mornings and Evenings
I've been experimenting with different lenses, different settings at different times of the day, mostly on Greasy Spoon Road while hiking with the dogs.
It's a 360 degree view. Kasa is taking it in in a rare moment of her standing still while the morning sun glows on her backside.
This one I shot of my Golden, Takoda facing the morning sun that same day on Greasy Spoon Road in late December, New Year's Eve morning, just to see what I would get. It created its own outline around his body.
The elevation is … (25 comments)

fishhawk lake seasons: Another Past Winter Photo of Fishhawk Lake - 12/07/14 10:40 PM
Another Past Winter Photo of Fishhawk Lake
Since I missed Speechless Sunday with a photo, I figured that I would at least visit the past again (today) with another Winter at Fishhawk Lake photo from 2007.
This photo represents to me the idyllic "cabin in the snow on a lake". In the foreground to the right is our log boom which surrounds our spillway and the fishladder, which is not pictured (just a corner of the spillway is what you see on the right).
I sold this cabin to new buyers this summer. This is always one of my favorite vantage … (23 comments)

Fishhawk Lake-Gift Giving Ideas
Being a photographer at Fishhawk Lake, I have scads of pictures of different seasons. Since people happen upon my blogposts and look at my copious amounts of pictures on ActiveRain as well as my website, I decided to take it a step further and use my photos as occasional gifts.
The editing program that I use, ribbet.com had partnered with Zazzle several months ago and as I was editing, I noticed this company as an option for a way to put my photos on all kinds of products. It looked like fun, so I tried it with … (47 comments)

fishhawk lake seasons: Fishhawk Lake--Is That Always the Color of the Water?? - 03/10/14 12:12 PM

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate...the questions that come up from clients are many and varied. This was one that I got from new clients this weekend. It was after days of rainy activity and this was their first time out here, so they didn't have any kind of gauge.
Because of turbidity from heavy rains, silt from runoff from creeks and the logging that is going on in the outer fringes (outside our community here at Fishhawk Lake), it DOES look a bit, well..murky!
Fishhawk Lake is fed from Fishhawk Creek which comes from up above the lake, through farmland, forest and what-not.It … (16 comments)

fishhawk lake seasons: Winter Bird Feeding at Fishhawk Lake - 12/05/13 12:55 PM
Winter Bird Feeding at Fishhawk Lake

When the weather gets down to the teens at Fishhawk Lake (and elsewhere) then it's time to help the small critters in your community keep warm and satiated. That's why when I saw Patricia Feager's blogpost about making bird cupcakes, I decided to give it a whirl. Very few ingredients and a bit of Baking 101 was pretty much all it took. I was actually excited to do this for our little winged creatures! She calls for cupcake tins, but all I had were teeny muffin tins. Oh well, ya make do with what you can out … (36 comments)

fishhawk lake seasons: Fishhawk Lake A Quiet July 4th - 07/04/13 02:03 PM
Fishhawk Lake A Quiet July 4th

Today, at Fishhawk Lake, it was "the calm before the storm"...a day of momentary relaxation, a low-key overcast day with breakthroughs of sun periodically.

This quiet pair of kayaks rested near the shoreline in my neighbor's yard. A reminder that summer is officially here. The weather always kicks in after July 4th, but I have to say...it's been truly lovely this year weather-wise, with many hot days, perfectly inviting water for dipping, long sundowns with skies bright late into the night.
At Fishhawk Lake, the 4th of July fireworks display that happens over … (6 comments)

Fishhawk Lake-Mother Nature Giveth and She Taketh Away!
Yesterday, we officially welcomed in the First Day of Spring. I was delightfully happy to do so and wrote a blog about it, highlighting one of my new spring flowers, the lovely little crocus, who pops up quite early.
Not a day later, our dear Mother Nature decided that The First Day of Spring was only going to be a tease for things to come...

fishhawk lake seasons: Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-The Story of our Lake Goose - 01/27/13 11:00 PM
The Story of our Lake Goose
The first time I ever “met” our resident lady Lake Goose, she was with two others, a male and female. I was taking photos of my new Fishhawk Lake lakefront listing several years ago and was on the shoreline when they came swimming up.
I went home and got some bread and fed them.  I believe she was a widow, since several species of birds mate for life.
Soon after, the other two disappeared. She was alone. I saw her wandering down the paved road, way off the lake, her voice raised in desperate honks … (16 comments)

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate I think I can! I think I can!

This little dredge always makes me think of The Little Engine That Could, the motivational children's book. We have had it forever here at Fishhawk Lake, it keeps on pluggin’ along and other than it scaring my pup, Kasa (she never likes inanimate objects and barks like crazy) it does what it’s supposed to throughout the seasons at Fishhawk Lake.

This little guy dredges the silt that collects through the seasons at Fishhawk Lake and through a large piping system takes it to dry land into spoils ponds … (9 comments)

fishhawk lake seasons: Speechless Sunday Salamander - 11/18/12 08:01 AM
Speechless Sunday Salamander

This pretty fella is one of the regulars that we see on land as the season becomes a rainy one at Fishhawk Lake. These salamanders are found often in the waters of Fishhawk Lake throughout the year and rise to the surface to grab bugs, or take in some air (I’m guessing) and then slither down into the colder depths below.

As it starts pelting rain in the late months of the year, you will find them making their way vvveeeeerrry slooowly across the paved roads. They are often as big as six inches and … (25 comments)

Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-A Day on the Lake!

Finally, a photo op!

It was a Saturday, with an open day for my husband and I to enjoy a gloriously sunny February afternoon on Fishhawk Lake!  After chores were all completed our “reward” was to break out our canoe, shove it off the stone steps into the glassy lake and go with the flow—literally!

We headed across from our home on the lake and lo and behold, a bald eagle flapped out of the trees and flew right over our heads (of course before I … (19 comments)
