With a nation so caught up in physical beauty and the appearance of never aging (thanks to botox and nip/tuck) it seems to spill over into other areas as well. Relating this to real estate, one has to wonder when buyers are out there if they are simply swayed by the first layer of a home...if it presents well, or is it just smoke and mirrors?

I was perusing one of my old personal journals and came upon a list that I wrote on February 10, 2001. At the top I wrote Our Dream House and I had a list of 46 ITEMS!
I have to say that reviewing this list, almost exactly 13 years later, it is AMAZING how close we came to absolutely nailing everything I had on that list! I found my dream home in 2010.

(I found this in my drafts from last fall....and as I'm trying to wake up from the snowy blanket of eternal whiteness, I thought I'd share a more colorful moment at Fishhawk Lake). Here I was trying out a new mirror lens inside my "lakeroom" (as I was just experimenting and it was wet outside)...so I saw a bit of sun glancing off some autumn maple leaves and I thought, well, why not give this lens a try? Stormy Afternoon on Fishhawk Road
There is something about blustery clouds, blue-gray afternoons and mist rising over hilltops that always draw me.
This day was in and out of downpours, glimpses of blue sky and mostly rain, clouds, rain, and a dash of dreariness thrown in for good measure. But, to a photographer, it's worth stopping alongside the road and catching that moment that speaks to you. I simply stood on the floorboard of my pickup and snapped photos before my lens got too wet.

While shooting photos for my new lakefront listing at 71350 Northshore Drive Birkenfeld OR 97016, I stepped out onto the large deck to get a couple of quick outdoor shots because yesterday was a busy day and it was almost 6pm by the time I was able to shoot anything outside. Plus, it was rather dreary and yet the calmness of the water made for some sweet reflections of the cabins across the lake.
