CenturyLink ready to grow CenturyLink, one of Louisiana's brightest beacons of commerce, is about to grow even bigger at the company's Monroe headquarters on U.S. 165 North.
The company announced Tuesday it will break ground on a 225,000-square-foot headquarters expansion in early 2013.  The company's current headquarters is 365,000 square feet. 
CenturyLink's building project was one of the commitments the company made last summer when it announced the company will create 800 local jobs by 2016.
The expansion is expected to include technology research facilities as well as additional office and meeting space.

A merger between CenturyLink Inc. and Qwest Communications International Inc. was completed Friday, creating a communications company with a geographic coverage of 681,000 square miles, second only to AT&T.  
Friday's merger will more than double the size of CenturyLink. It will now have local operations in 37 states and enterprise and long-distance business in all 50 states.
Through the merger, CEO Glen Post said the company gained access to opportunities with large businesses and Fortune 500 companies and created a "national footprint."

CenturyLink deal may benefit Monroe Regional Airport

Monroe Regional Airport could have direct commercial flights to and from Denver if the Monroe Chamber of Commerce gets its wish.
The chamber is interested in service to Denver because of anticipated increased demand resulting from Monroe-based CenturyLink's acquisition of Denver-based Qwest Communications.
CenturyLink, Monroe's signature company and one of Fortune 500's largest U.S. companies, announced it would acquire Qwest earlier this year. The companies anticipate closing the transaction in the first half of 2011.

There was a B-I-G event in Monroe yesterday! Governor Bobby Jindal was in town to share a bountiful Thanksgiving luncheon at CenturyLink's headquarters on Hwy 165N. During his visit, President and CEO Glen Post and Gov. Jindal made the announcement that CenturyLink will be adding 350 jobs here in Monroe within the next 4 years.  Post also announced that the company is committed to remain in Monroe at least until 2019.
CenturyLink has tripled in size since the acquisition earlier this year of Embarq Corp. It is now the 4th largest telephone company in the US.
