As reported in the News-Star this week, home prices in the Monroe Metropolitan Statistical Area grew about 3 percent in 2010. According to the Federal Housing Finance Agency, this was the second best average change in the nation. 
Other housing market research sites like Local Market Monitor and Housing Predictor listed Monroe as one of the Top 10 markets in the U.S. In fact, Housing Predictor had this to say about the Monroe market:

To keep you posted so you can make good decisions about buying and/or selling, here are the statistics for sales of homes in Ouachita Parish for the period of Jan--October. I have included the past 2 years so you can see how the market has moved during this "housing crisis".  It has pretty much been a non-event here in Ouachita Parish.

You probably know by now that I like to keep up with the real estate market in Ouachita Parish. After all, that's my JOB!  I want to know how we're doing. The news from every media source will lead you to believe that the housing market is terrible, but that's not the case in Monroe, West Monroe, Calhoun, and Sterlington.
Let's compare the summer selling season in 2009 to 2008, specifically the months of June, July & August.

People are always asking me to tell them about foreclosures in the area. Yes, there are a FEW on the market in Monroe and West Monroe, but no more than any other time in the past several years.
