A merger between CenturyLink Inc. and Qwest Communications International Inc. was completed Friday, creating a communications company with a geographic coverage of 681,000 square miles, second only to AT&T. Friday's merger will more than double the size of CenturyLink. It will now have local operations in 37 states and enterprise and long-distance business in all 50 states. Through the merger, CEO Glen Post said the company gained access to opportunities with large businesses and Fortune 500 companies and created a "national footprint." Many people don't know what to do with a flag that has seen its better days. Proper etiquette for the flag is to remove it when it looks faded or torn. It must be disposed of properly, too, not just thrown in the trash. To keep you posted so you can make good decisions about buying and/or selling, here are the statistics for sales of homes in Ouachita Parish for the period of Jan--October. I have included the past 2 years so you can see how the market has moved during this "housing crisis". It has pretty much been a non-event here in Ouachita Parish. I will admit that homes are staying on the market longer, but I don't consider 7 days to be catastrophic. Local Realtors sold 22 more homes in 2008 than the same period of 2009. In Louisiana, September usually has 90+degree temps. We've had a little reprieve lately that leads me to the hope that fall may be coming soon. During this week's "rain event" in which the Monroe/West Monroe area has received 2" of rain per day since Saturday, the temperatures have been lower than the norm. Chances of rain today are 80%, so I think it will be another mild, though soggy, day. Three things are the signs of fall to me: 1. The majestic pecan trees in my back yard are heavy with pecans.
