houses: Impossible Virginia Beach Photo - 11/04/07 02:01 AM

houses: Portsmouth @ Willet Hall - 10/31/07 01:23 AM
Willet Hall has stood the test of time since 1955 (a good year since I was born that year).  Now that many world class talents have passed through the halls, it may me history.  The 1,924 venue was recently used as Hunt-Mapp Middle School.  The city is looking into spending roughly $6 million dollars to turn it into a free standing venue.  The 1300 seat Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach recently opened at a cost of $47 million dollars.  With a big stage and $41 million dollars in savings it seems like a no brainer to me.  … (0 comments)

houses: Cobweb Detector - 10/29/07 03:14 AM
I was playing with my new camera when I spotted what looked like a wet spot on my wall.  I looked at the spot on the wall but couldn't see it.  So I went closer and spotted a cobweb.  I guess the camera picked it up as a shadow.  Now when I look for cobwebs I just take pictures of the ceilings and go find them. Quite interesting. … (4 comments)

houses: RAIN VIRGINIA BEACH RAIN - 10/28/07 06:44 AM
A couple of goods of rains is what we needed.  It won't cure the draught in Hampton Roads but it will help fill up some resiviors in the area.  The threat of wildfires will go down as well with this last bit of rain.  Monthly rain averages have been down since last November and the area is still more then 10 inches behind.  Even with the rain outdoor burning is still banned.  … (0 comments)

houses: Portsmouth Naval Hospital - 10/28/07 06:37 AM
Rear Adm. Matthew Nathan has assumed command of the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center.  Nathan has a nack for service as at one of his last commands the facility earned the highest patient satisfaction ratings of any medium sized hospital in the system.  Nathan can't complain of conditions at the hospital because his boss was the previous commander of the hospital.  Although the hospital doesn't treat a lot of the war wounded it is quite busy delivering over 42050 babies last year and having 15,000 patients admitted.  We wish him luck.

houses: POLLUTION RUNOFF SLOWS!!! - 10/24/07 04:51 AM
There is an upside to the current drought if only temporary.  The Chespeake Bay is a bit cleaner thanks to no runoff from the waterways.  Most of the pollution comes from runoff.  No rain, no runoff.  The runoff causes two problems.  One is the muddy sediments that cloud the water, shallow it and then smother the aquatic life.  The second problem is the nutrient rich wasted sparks algae blooms, stealing oxygent that fish and shellfish need to breath.  Hopefully some day we will find a happy medium. … (0 comments)

houses: NO SMOKING!! - 10/24/07 04:43 AM
First its' no cursing, blocking intersections, no feeding the birds, no watering and now its no smoking.  Norfolk city council is the first in the state to ask for a ban on smoking in restaurants.  The city of Virginia Beach is expected to follow.  Guess we are in some kind of a health crisis.  Second hand smoke is a pain and we don't go to places that are small and allow smoking ourselves which means most bars are out of bounds.  Whats next? … (2 comments)

houses: Fax to Email Service - 10/22/07 10:24 AM
Anyone have a good fax to email service.  I am looking for a service that can take a fax from my fax machine and turn it into an email attachement as well as one that will let someone else send a fax to email.  I also need to be able to send the fax from my computer.
I have looked online but I can find a service where I can fax from a fax machine to email but not from my computer.

Here are some pictures from my new camera.  I need to work on taking insided pictures as that is the reason I bought the camera as it has a 28-504 mm lens on it.  I just love the zoom however.

houses: I Know Where The Buyers Went - 09/25/07 06:13 AM
I was walking this morning and came upon some shrubs by the Rite-Aid.  There were local real estate magazines laying around.  I looked to see why they might have been there and saw tons of these webs with holes in them.  All I can think of is that the spider creatures pulled the unsuspecting buyer into his lair as they were reading through the fat real estate books and not paying attention to what was happening.  This could also be the portal to the looking glass and they could be with Alice.

houses: The Ocean View Rocket Bike Trail - 09/22/07 03:01 AM
Arn Salasky has an idea to build a bike path on Ocean View Ave.  Sounds like a great idea and a way to help the community but alas it was met with tepid response from city officials.  Some have thier own plans and others just say the idea will be looked at.  Come on Norfolk, get on your bikes and head to city hall. … (0 comments)

houses: INVADING TREES - 09/22/07 02:49 AM
Your neighbors tree is cracking your patio, tilted your retaining wall, invaded your sewer pipe and is only half grown.  The legal standard used to be that you could trim the tree, cut the roots and hope that you didn't kill the tree because the neighbor could sue you.  The Virginia State Supreme Court recently ruled that landowners can sue to force removal if the tree poses an "imminent danger" or risk of "actual harm".  A wise and welcome decision. … (1 comments)

houses: Big Big Bee - 09/20/07 07:55 AM
I posted a picture of butterflies that I grow on kitchen table a while back.  Apparently I also grow big big hornets in my upstairs bathroom.  I couldn't get anything close so you could see the size but trust me he was at least as long as my thumb.  I magic lassoed him, brightened and sharpened in Photo Elements 2.

houses: No Feeding The Birds - 09/12/07 01:04 AM
First its' no cursing, blocking intersections and such at the beach.  Now you can't even feed the birds.  In an effort to cut down the bird popluation at Mount Trashmore the city is launching a campaign to not feed the birds.  If they are fat and happy they stay and don't move on.  The problem is they eat all the forage food for the migratory birds and there isn't always enough food in the winter so you end up with dead and or malnourished sickly birds.  Even though it may seem like a good idea it is never a good idea … (1 comments)

houses: Fuji S9001 - 09/07/07 07:51 AM
I am looking at purchasing a Fuji S9001.  I was wondering if anyone has one or the prior one which is the S9000.  This is above the point and shoot but below the DSLR cameras.  It is significant because it has a wide angle zoom lens that goes way out there 28 to 300.  I know I need the 28 but I just love what zooms can do for outdoor pictures.
If you don't have one of these do you have something similiar to recommend?  Thanks.

houses: V705 Waterlogged - 08/24/07 07:57 AM
I killed my Kodak V705.  I was not really happy with the pictures from it anyways.  I am wondering what you all use for pictures.  I was looking at purchasing the Panasonic DMC TZ3 with a 28mm telephoto or the Canon SD 800.  I know you really need the DSLR for great pictures but not in the budget at the moment.  Is 28mm good enough for indoor shots?  … (6 comments)

houses: Old Skull - 08/16/07 09:51 AM
A human skull found recently by cemetery workers was likely from a person who died a long time ago.  The medcal examiners said ti appears to be old.  The skull was in a plastic grocery bag at the Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens and Chapel Mausoleum when it was found.  Why or where it came from may never be known.  … (1 comments)
