norfolk: Credit Scores Dip In Norfolk - 10/25/11 08:49 AM
Even with falling debt and fewer late payments the average credit score for Norfolk consumers by by one point.  It went from 741 to 740.  It may not sound like much but in Experians latest "State of Credit" Norfolk fell eight places.  This report is put out yearly by Experian a major credit reporting company.  Their credit score is called VantageScore and is similar to the more widely known FICO scoring system.
Your credit score is important because the higher it is the less banks will ask for additional documentation.  In addition you can qualify for better terms with some credit … (0 comments)

norfolk: Norfolk, Where Are The Short Sale/Foreclosure Owners Living? - 08/17/10 03:39 PM
Norfolk, where are the former Short Sale/Foreclosure owners living?  It looks like they are living in apartments.  Apartment construction is booming as City Council just approved rezoning for 180 apartments called Meadowood just off North Military Hwy/International Blvd.  This would make the 7th apartment complex that has approval or has opened in the last year.
More people who would have bought in the past are now renting.  Many military personnel are only here for two or three years and have decided to rent instead of getting into the housing market also.  Of course all of this only adds to the glut … (1 comments)

The Virginia Zoo has an elephant made out of aluminum butterflies.  Can you believe it!!!  I think it is great and am planning a trip there to check it out soon.  The butterfly on the elephants nose has wings in the shape of an elephant.  The scupture will be at the main entrance to the zoo.  Matthew Gray Palmer of Friday Harbor, Wa received the commission for the sculpture back in 2008.  It cost around $103,000.

norfolk: Night Time MLS Picture In Norfolk - 11/12/09 05:19 AM
This is a night time MLS picture I ran into in Norfolk today.  I was scanning for listings for my buyer when I spotted this one.  At least the agent exposed for the window.  The picture could be photo shopped to expose the rest of the house but it would still be a bad picture from the way it was framed to spot the picture was taken from.  The bad thing is he probably makes more money then I do.

Norfolk's Waterside could become a Farmers Market in the not to distant future.  A local developer ,Divaris Real Estate, pitched such a deal to the city the other day.  They would transform Waterside into a farmers market to include arts and crafts dealers along with a high end seafood restaurant.  The city is taking its time and asking for proposals from citizens also.  Look for answers in maybe six months.

norfolk: The Mother of Plug-In Electrics Comes to Norfolk - 10/10/09 09:30 AM
The mother of all plug in electrics comes to Norfolk.  There aren't many plug in vehicles yet but there are some.  Let me tell about one.  This one has 1.080 lead acid batteries, 1,500 horsepower, cost $1.3 million dollars and only goes in circles.  Norfolk Southern has bought an all electric switching locomotive.  The locomotive can go three shifts before needing to be recharged.  That should really cut down on local emissions. It is truely an amazing feat if you ask me.

norfolk: Grease is in Norfolk - 09/30/09 12:38 AM
Grease is in Norfolk, Va.  The long running play is in town at Chrysler Hall and will be here thru Oct 4 so get your tickets now and enjoy.  The show has been around since 1972 when Jim Jacobs co-wrote the show.  He seems to think Grease has endured because of the cool cars, rock and roll, Elvis and James Dean.  It was a time when we discovered our parents and authority figures were not always right.  He it pretty much on the head as that is the time I was growing up.  So take so time and enjoy yourself as … (0 comments)

For all you boaters in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Portsmouth, here is some good information.  Along with our tv transmissions going digital soon so are the Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB) for boaters are going digital on Feb 1.  The coast guard along with other rescue personal will only respond to digital 406-MHZ beacons.  The digital beacons are 50 times more powerful then the analog ones.  Satellites will be able to track the beacon to 100 yards while at the same time the beacons will not give false positives meaning the coast guard will be on station quicker.

norfolk: Agents Not Cutting The Mustard - 01/06/09 02:47 AM
I received an email from a buyer the other day.  He wanted information on properties of course.  I asked him if he was working with an agent and he said yes, he was waiting for a response for an offer he had made on a property.  I sent him an email and said I would be happy to help him and so on but did not want to step on the agents toes.  After that I didn't waste much time as he was already working with an agent.  He was back on my site a week later looking for properties so … (3 comments)

norfolk: Ready, Willing and Able Buyers - 12/29/08 09:05 AM
I was thinking about buyers in Norfolk recently and this article from our Realtor magazine caught my eye with a great article titled "Overcoming Buyer Reluctance." As we are constantly speaking with home buyers about their wants and needs for a new home, but many times especially now they are reluctant to actually go through with a transaction. This article hits the nail on the head in terms of explaining why buyers are feeling this way. A great illustration in the article to allow buyers to visualize the real estate market:
A simple technique to prove to potential buyers, or even sellers, … (0 comments)

norfolk: Jet Landing Pad Needed - 12/10/08 11:10 AM
Please don't laugh but I need to know if anyone has heard of an area around Norfolk that allows jets to land in a subdivison?  I have a buyer coming from the area around Chicago where they have a subdivison with an airstrip for the homeowners.  I have seen little Piper Cub type planes in the outer reaches of Suffolk but jets are quite another.  Thanks in advance for any answers, help and so on.

norfolk: Passing The Party To Charity - 11/24/08 10:44 AM
In the spirit of giving this year, GVA Advantis, of Norfolk is passing on its annual holiday party this year.  The money they would have spent will be given to to the local food bank and ForKids.  This amounts to something like $1,500.  Maybe other companies that are cutting back on charity giving will follow suit and give up the parties to give to charity.  Keep up the good work.
