economic outlook: The Economy's There & I Don't Care - John Tuccillo - 08/05/10 07:55 AM
As you may be aware, NAR holds a GAD Institute each year attended by Government Affairs Directors from around the country. The purpose is to bring together GAD's to focus on common problems and challenges, learn about new resources that are available to deal with these issues and to get updated on a variety of legislative and economic issues that are confronting our industry.
One of the more interesting segments of our recent GAD Institute was an update by former NAR Chief Economist John Tuccillo. Tuccillo, who last served NAR in 1997, is one of those rare birds - an … (6 comments)

economic outlook: At the NAR. Dr. Yun Prognosticates on Housing Recovery. - 11/13/09 04:48 PM
I always enjoy listening in when our Chief Economist Lawrence Yun prognosticates. Dr Yun has developed a little sense of humor during the past few years, and while not nearly as eloquent or entertaining as David Lareah in his heyday, Yun is able to translate the numbers to his audience much better than 3 or 4 years ago - even though the numbers aren't nearly as entertaining. economic outlook: UCLA Anderson Forecast - Some Hopeful News For Housing? - 03/25/09 12:22 PM
If you didn't see todays Inman news, here's a summary of current reports from the UCLA Anderson Forecast. Overall, not the cheeriest of reports, as reports go. It summarized the current economic outlook as 'bleak'. But there are a few 'bright' spots - and to the extent they can be construed as good news, many involve housing.
For example, one report "The Global Slump" opines that the 'housing market can't get much lower' and calls for a tepid recovery in 2010. That's good housing news isn't it. We may be bumping along that rocky bottom NAR talked about last year.

economic outlook: All Stimulus All The Time - 02/06/09 10:38 AM
"We need to fix housing first" according to Republican Senator Mitch McConnell of the fabled Obama stimulus program. I suggest everybody pay attention to Sen McConnell - he knows whereof he speaks.
Watching the gyrations going on around the various stimuli/bail-out bills has been nothing short of breathtaking of late. It's little wonder the average American is totally bumfuddled. I suspect most of the people voting on the bill are equally in the dark. Even at our recent state association meetings you really needed a scorecard to sort out the players.
Let's see, our Senator Boxer, who has been a frequent … (4 comments)
