obama: Obama & Econ 101 - 06/02/12 08:45 AM
Obama & Econ 101
I just heard our illustrious President on the radio putting his spin on the recent dismal economic numbers. I'm sure you've heard them - unemployment up, gas prices up, job creation down, consumer confidence tanking again - yeah, that economic news. So the President's take...-
"The Legislature needs to make it easier for companies to hire people."
And that, Folks, is the heart of the problem right there. His first reaction to anything involves more government. The Legislature needs to make it easier. Really? I mean, don't get me wrong, over-regulation and interference by the government is … (13 comments)

obama: Obama's Expanded Mortgage Relief. A Shell Game? - 10/26/11 05:09 AM
Even the headlines is a lie - 'Obama offers homeowners mortgage relief'.  The revamped Home Affordable Refinance Program (HARP) announced by President Obama on Monday, was actually the work of the FHFA, but lets not quibble about who takes the credit during this election cycle. It's not like the program will do enough good to matter anyway, in all likelihood.
But one can always hope. At least the 11+ million of us with underwater mortgages can hope. Well, maybe some subset of those can hope. After all, the original HARP was supposed to provide relief for 5 million homeowners but in … (12 comments)

obama: Realtors. Are Your Rich? Joe Biden Thinks So. - 09/03/10 09:21 AM
Are you rich? I suspect the answer from most of us, especially given the events of the past couple years, would be a resounding "NO". Most of us might even take that up a notch to "HELL NO".
But if this administration allows some or all of the current tax cuts to expire at the end of this year, you might be surprised. For  example, according to the most recent NAR statistics, the median income for a licensed broker/broker associate in 2010 was $49,100. Does making just under $50k a year qualify you as rich? Well if the tax cuts … (13 comments)

obama: FHA's Dave Stevens Talks. WE created the mess. THEY'll fix it. Oboy. - 04/19/10 11:47 AM
This morning we were treated to an hour long conference call with FHA Commissioner Dave Stevens, courtesy of NAR. Long-time readers know I'm a fan of Stevens, even got a nice comment from him on a blog I wrote last fall following his address at NAR. I think it's a good thing to have somebody in his position who actually knows real estate, knows what it takes to sell a house, get a mortgage, work a short sale, etc. As introduced this morning, they said it's 'refreshing to have someone who knows our industry.' I concur.
Stevens started his talk saying … (5 comments)

obama: Making Home Affordable - Another, Day Another Lie - 03/22/10 08:13 AM
You all remember the great fanfare wherein President B H Obama introduced the fabulous Making Home Affordable Program (Help for the hardest hit - according to the website)? He said - and I quote, "this program will enable as many as 3 to 4 million home owners to modify the terms of their mortgage" preserving the dream of home ownership. Last May in Washington DC, Housing Secretary Shaun Donovan trumpeted the program before a packed audience of Realtors® during our Legislative Summit Day - the plan 'does a number of things to make sure that 3 to 4 million families can … (5 comments)

obama: Obama to Receive Gold Medal - 02/23/10 11:55 AM
NBC announced that Pres. B.H. Obama will be awarded a gold medal at the Olympic Ceremonies this evening in Vancouver. After careful examination by the judges, it seems he's gone downhill even faster than Bode Miller.

obama: Obama Screws the Pooch Again - 08/08/09 08:38 AM
The Problem:
It it just me or does it seem like every time Obama turns around he's shooting himself in the foot these days. Fast on the heels of his untimely comment on 'stupid' police, comes his offer to have his sycophants tattle on their neighbors for disagreeing with his health care carbuncle. I guess if his SEIU cronies can't intimidate or beat them into submission, maybe the PC police will pay them a little visit. Here's the article from Fox News...
"The White House is in bit of a conundrum because of this privacy statute that prohibits the White House … (19 comments)

obama: Obamanomics to the rescue? Ski areas say NYET! - 11/21/08 10:02 AM
11-20 obamanomics & ski areas Obamanomics to the rescue? The Associated Press November 20, 2008, 1:08PM ET  3 Colorado ski resorts bracing for layoffs DENVER
Ski resort workers at three Colorado mountains are bracing for layoffs as a Canadian resort operator says the poor economy will force job cuts.
Intrawest Corp. this week did not say exactly how many jobs will go at its three owned or operated Colorado resorts -- Copper Mountain, Steamboat Ski & Resort and Winter Park. But the Vancouver-based resort operator says the drop in business at its resorts is unlike anything it has experienced in … (16 comments)

11-9 scarborough & barnicle In an effort to bring you more from the governance side of the NAR Conference & Expo, I attended a very entertaining session featuring the host of Morning Joe on MSNBC Joe Scarborough and columnist & commentator Mike Barnicle titled 'Election Results and the 111th Congress: Legislative & Political Forum.' You can view my other NAR Updates here: NAR - Land Use, Property Rights & Environment Committee NAR - Regulatory Issues Forum As stated before, this will not be an exhaustive reporting of the forum but a highlight of their views, some entertaining quotes and my commentary. … (7 comments)

obama: NAR - Regulatory Issues Forum - 11/08/08 08:47 AM
11-8 regulatory issues After a couple rough days in Miami at the MortgageFraudBlog Conference - (you can read all about it here) - I'm up to Orlando for the NAR Conference & Expo. I hope I can make it to the AR party tonight but it's been a helluva a few days with morning to night meetings and I'm fading. It appears that most of the posts I read here about the NAR Expo focus on the social media seminars and the tech sided of things - and there is plenty of that to go around. As an NAR Director, I … (1 comments)

obama: Redistribution of wealth - easier in concept than practice. - 11/01/08 01:20 PM
11-1 redistribution Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed.      Once in the restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" pin, again I laughed as she had given away her political preference--just imagine the coincidence.        When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to her that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. She stood there in disbelief while I told her that I was going to redistribute her tip to someone who I deemed more … (48 comments)

obama: Looking Ahead to the 2012 Election - 10/30/08 04:30 AM
10-30 2012 obama This was forwarded to me this morning. Looks like a pretty accurate read of the situation. The Obama Administration Ben Shapiro Wednesday, October 29, 2008
November 3, 2012, WASHINGTON D.C. -- Tomorrow, Americans return to the polls, four years after electing Senator Barack Hussein Obama their commander in chief. Though the incumbent president trails in the polls, his aides still hold out hope that he will be able to engineer an improbable victory.
Dissatisfaction with the depressed economy, America's tenuous situation abroad, and a spate of unpopular Supreme Court decisions led by Obama appointees have led voters … (26 comments)

obama: Biased Media? Who says? These Guys Do. - 10/23/08 01:25 PM
10-23 negative news The Project for Excellence in Journalism, a Washington D.C. based think-tank with no political affiliation, has issued a report comparing the news coverage of Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama. The findings of the report are simple: while candidate coverage since their conventions has been pretty equal in quantity, there has been a noticeable difference in quality. Coverage of John McCain during the campaign "has been overwhelmingly negative since the conventions ended."
The Project for Excellence in Journalism studied some 2,412 stories from 48 news outlets for its study, including newspapers, Web sites and broadcast and cable … (29 comments)

obama: A Model for Dysfunctional Politics - Give Our Founding Fathers Some Credit. - 09/20/08 05:55 AM
9-22 balance of power A couple days ago I wrote an article about the budget mess in California entitled 'Call EE 4 Kneeya - It's All About the Balls'. If you didn't read it, you probably should because it's a ready-made primer on what happens when you combine tax & spend leadership with a tax & spend legislature - what some of you are proposing to do in November. It's not a pretty picture and if you think the nations current economic problems are tough, just give it a few years under a tax & spend regime. (By the way, the … (7 comments)

obama: Obama at the Blowhole. Too funny. - 08/15/08 03:13 PM
Just had to pass this along for those of you who might need a chuckle. You probably noticed I haven't done any political posts the past couple weeks. That's because I've been on Kauai and Maui and so I've made a few posts to Traveling Rainers. For those of you unlucky enough to actually have real estate business to attend to - you can experience a virtual vacation through me. In fact if you want to take up a collection and send it over, I'll gladly stay another week or two and let you know how it is. Thanks.
Anyway, as you're … (25 comments)

obama: Obama Blows Smoke Up Your... Tires - 08/01/08 07:05 AM
8-1 Obama Blows Smoke Up Your...Tires Well, Nancy Pelosi and her henchmen (& women) pulled up stakes in our nation's capitol and headed of for parties unknown (whoops, that should read - parts unknown). Having them out of town for awhile is always a good thing as our remaining freedoms will remain untrammeled until their return and our incomes will not be taxed any more. Of course they hit the road without a vote on the minor issue of re-instituting off-shore drilling or other ways to increase our independence on foreign oil. Pelosi couldn't risk having that come to a floor … (56 comments)
