This holiday season, the Covington Domestic Violence Task Force urges everyone not to toss out their dated electronics and gadgets as they get new ones for Christmas.  Those used items can be donated for a great local cause.

The City of Covington announced today that due to the wrath of Mother Nature, the foot bridge over the creek in Jenkins Creek Park has collapsed. Many residents and school children utilize the foot bridge as a short cut and to go to and from school at Jenkins Creek Elementary. Currently, the city is working to bring in contractors to remove the collapsed bridge that could potentially cause flooding. The city will not be accepting appointments for permit applications or permit issuance on Wednesday, November 24th, Thursday December 23rd or Thursday December 30th.  There will be staff available to answer questions at the counter as needed on these dates, except December 23rd.

The City of Covington is looking for help in removing graffiti.  On Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 8:45 AM, the city is holding its 2nd Annual Clean Covington Day.  The city is asking for volunteers to come to the city's Maintenance Shop (at 180th and 256th Streets) and help remove graffiti around town.  All supplies will be provided, but please wear clothing you won't mind getting dirty!  Kids welcome with adult supervision and a breakfast snack will be provided.

The City of Covington is sponsoring a brand new event to benefit local victims of domestic violence.  Purple Light Nights is not new, but this year you will have the opportunity to purchase tickets ($1 value for each) and us them at some of Covington's great food establishments.  Then 50 cents from each ticket sale will go benefit the Covington Domestic Violence Task Force (CDVTF)!
The CDVTF provides safe night stays to victims, cell phones, food, financial literacy and community education about domestic violence.

                            Building Inspection Hours Temporary Change
 
The City of Covington Inspection division will be closed all of next week (June 28 - July2nd), with the exception of Wednesday, June 30th.
On Wednesday, June 30th, building inspection will be processed all day from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. to help accommodate the expected volume.
Regular inspection hours are 8 a.m. - noon, Mondays through Thursdays.

    Immediate lane closures on 272nd will allow crews to improve the roadway

 
Starting this morning, contractors will be imposing a closure on all lanes of 272nd (Kent-Kangley Road) in the eastbound direction from just past Wax Road to where it becomes one lane.  The closures could last up to one month and upon completion crews will flip the lane closures to the westbound lanes.

The City of Covington has announced they are making adjustments to the Permit Counter Hours.
 
New permit counter and building inspection hours went into place at the beginning of the year due to staff reductions at the City.  While the new building inspection hours will remain the same (Monday - Thursday from 8 a.m. - Noon and closed on Fridays and holidays) the City is still tweaking the permit counter hours to adjust for staff availability and efficiency.

Fire fighters from Station 78 in Covington will be on-site at the Covington City Hall to perform healthy screenings for anyone.  The screenings include Blood Pressure Checks & Glucose (Sugar Level) Screenings and it is FREE!

              Construction Scheduled for June 15 - July 10
Starting Monday, June 15th, expect daytime lane closures on SR-516 / Kent Kangley Rd. from Highway 18 to 168th Place S.E.  This will be in effect to allow for the installation of a new median over a four week period.
