oakhurst california: For the love of Spring and Bearded Iris

I love bearded iris and I love spring in our mountain community. For the past two years we were out-of-town for the "bloom" but this year purposedly worked our travel schedule differently so that we could experience these glorious blossoms. Every spring we look forward to the beautiful blossoms that help mother nature remind us that winter is almost over. Daffodils are one of my favorite flowers and I have an abundance of them in my garden but they don't stand a chance. EVERY year they rise up, get strong, open and within a day or two are flattened by a spring snow. That happened this morning. I should have picked more of them yesterday. I love seeing them in the yard but that doesn't work here. THANKS MOTHER NATURE for the reminder … (16 comments)
oakhurst california: California, the "golden state", is beautifully green right NOW. Head for the hills

Most Californians are accustomed to our "golden" landscapes from lack of precipitation. BUT when it's green, WOW it's gorgeous. Right now is the perfect time to take a drive and see the green fields, hills and mountain sides. Take a drive up Highway 41, headed north out of Fresno and discover the beauty that our area holds. Notice the snowcapped peaks in the background
Drive through farm lands, vineyards, pasture lands, rolling hills, and then into the Sierra Mountain Range. Highway 41 will take you through the small town of Coarsegold and into Oakhurst where Highway 49 intersects … (2 comments)
Experience the cool morning temperatures of Oakhurst in the fall and the beautiful colors in the surrounding mountains. Many vendors representing local and regional specialities have booths and you can sample wine, chocolate and tasty foods. This is designed as a family event.
