When I lived in Japan I was acutely aware of the changing seasons. Spring would start like clockwork on the ‘official calendar day’ and not merge, but explode into summer a little shy of three months later. The Japanese have holidays (like we do) mixed in and out of the year; some reflective of the seasons, others of religion, royalty, birth and death.
