While on an exceptional vacation in South Dakota last month, I was struck by something I had not noticed in previous visits.
I see a large granite eagle resting on George Washington's right shoulder. Mentioning it to other tourists, everyone had the same surprise. It's almost like the symbol of our democracy is growing weary of all our nation's problems!

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day As I take time out to remember those who lost their lives on this date in 1941, I wonder how many of us are left who were directly affected by that war. It seems that America is always in a war. On December 7th of 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japan, my parents had been married five months and I wasn't due until June of '42. We Are Americans! Where Is Our Economy Headed? One day we're up, the next day we're plunging downward. Why? I really think that the government is so anxious to prove its' doing the job that every positive note is being blown way out of proportion.
