Gnarly Sunrise

Months ago I spotted this dead Mesquite Tree that I thought would make an interesting silhouette against the sunrise.  Early this morning I peaked out to see the sky looking ripe with potential.  I thought I might as well give this new spot a try.

I didn't have to hike far, but I ended up going through about 30 spider webs making my way down into the wash through all the brush.  After the 5th spider web I extended my tripod and waved it up and down in front of me as I walked. … (6 comments)

The Sunrise that got me in trouble

After dropping my son off to school this morning I noticed the sky beginning to take on a little color.  I quickly headed up the mountain to one of my favorite spots.  The sky was amazing, full of an array of colors and textures.  It seemed to last quite a while as I was able to get a few different compositions in before it faded.

I was on such a high I decided to head further up the mountain to some small waterfalls that I was sure would still be running. … (12 comments)

Tucson: The Land of Beautiful Sunsets

With my careeer in Real Estate I often get the opportunity to introduce someone to this beautiful city called Tucson.  I feel like somewhat of a tour guide at times.  While driving around I try to find out what people are most interested in and point out the advantages of Tucson in respect to those interests.  Hiking, eating, cycling, off-roading, bird-watching, and shopping are all subjects that I never really thought I would address when my career in real estate began.  I try to point out the best of all of these.  Am … (22 comments)

Tucson: The Best Place to Photograph Lightning
Tucson is the best place to photograph lightning.  I grew up here in Tucson, Arizona.  I moved here when I was 9 months old and lived here until I was nineteen.  Huge monsoon storms filled with incredible lightning displays were a common sight during the summer months.  I never realized how rare this was outside of Tucson until I moved away.  What I thought was no big deal was something that I missed during the years away from my hometown.  I moved back in 1999 and have enjoyed these awesome storms ever since.

Gorgeous sunset and time with my son
As my son gets older he has gotten more and more busy.  His involvement in sports and social activities means less time with the family.  When I mentioned the possibility that I might go out and shoot the sunset he asked if he could go along.  We grabbed my wife's camera for him and left right after dinner.  It didn't look like the sunset was going to amount to much, but then it broke through beautifully.
I normally try to teach my kids something new each time we go out, but since it had … (8 comments)

Another stunning sunset in Tucson, Arizona

I took my one year old son, Jacob, with me on a short hike near my house.  He was heavy (my shoulders still hurt) and he wouldn't stop playing with my camera strap around my neck while I was trying to take pictures.  But the sunset was awesome, the weather was perfect, and then he fell asleep on the hike back.  I tried to take the child backpack off without waking him to get a picture but he woke up.
I count myself lucky to live in a place that has such stunning … (2 comments)

Just another Tucson Sunset
I spend a fair amount of my free time with a camera in hand.  It's my alone time, which I think just about everyone needs more of.  This was taken just the other night while in Saguaro National Park east of Tucson, Arizona.

Sunsets like these really do happen a lot here.  Visitors are amazed, but most Tucsonans think of this as just another Tucson Sunset.  If you like this, I suggest moving here.  I know a good Realtor if you do.

sky: Tucson has the best sunsets - 04/04/11 07:20 AM
Tucson has the best sunsets.  I might be just a little biased, having grown up in Tucson.  When I was a kid I didn't realize that other places don't have the amazing colors that only a desert sky can produce.
About 5 years ago I was at a family reunion in Colorado.  I had just started getting more into photography and was very interested in learning more.  My uncle had been into photography for many years.  I spent a lot of time trying to learn as much as possible from a much more advanced photographer.  On one hike around a … (8 comments)
