Crazy Storms and Stupid Motorists: Tucson's Natural Disasters?
Tucson, Arizona doesn't really have any disaster causing forces of nature. There isn't a volcano anywhere close. Hurricanes never hit. Tornados are possible, but they're usually so small that we call them funnel clouds. Supposedly, it's possible to feel an earthquake. In my 31 years of living here I never have. Snow or ice damage is unheard of. It only snows here about once every four years. When it does it's usually all melted by mid-morning. No ocean nearby greatly limits the possibility of a tidal wave. Tucson: The Best Place to Photograph Lightning Tucson is the best place to photograph lightning. I grew up here in Tucson, Arizona. I moved here when I was 9 months old and lived here until I was nineteen. Huge monsoon storms filled with incredible lightning displays were a common sight during the summer months. I never realized how rare this was outside of Tucson until I moved away. What I thought was no big deal was something that I missed during the years away from my hometown. I moved back in 1999 and have enjoyed these awesome storms ever since. (11 comments)
My favorite subject to photograph is lightning. In the last few weeks I’ve had several people ask me how to photograph lightning. I figured I would write a blog about how to photograph Lightning. Lightning can be somewhat difficult to shoot. Finding the right spot is key, waiting for the right conditions can be trying, and one needs to have the right gear. Capturing the image of something so powerful, dangerous, and beautiful is exhilarating and nothing short of awesome. The best way to start is to scout out locations.
