Roughly nine hours after playing tennis outdoors on a "relatively mild Mid-January" evening in Pinehurst, NC we awakened from our slumber to a winter wonder land! Equally surprising was the back-to-back school closure (snow days) for Moore County Schools! The kids (and teachers) have got to love it! Saturday, Sunday, Martin Luther King, JR. Holiday PLUS two SNOW days for good measure! Funny, we never had anything like that when I was a kid... Never mind the fact we spent the formative years of my youth in Florida! The United States Golf Association made it official when it announced that the U.S. Open will return to Pinehurst No. 2 in 2014. The announcement came at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania, site of this year's U.S. Open. The world-renowned Pinehurst Resort previously hosted U.S. Opens in 1999 and 2005. It had been speculated since the final day of the 2005 Open that the USGA would bring the national championship back to the Donald Ross-designed No. 2 course. It was just a question of when. The earliest possible date was 2014. The USGA does not maintain an official rotation of Open courses. … (0 comments)
