gotham realty group: Schooled on the Basketball Court… by an 8-year-old! - 06/15/10 05:17 AM

A game featuring two equally matched teams of kids, roughly between the ages of 8 and 17 (none taller than 5’9”), was nearing its end when I reached the basketball court yesterday evening.
Sitting on one sideline, a group of teenage girls giggled, sent text messages and discussed ”important” things like the upcoming Justin Bieber concert and Chris Brown’s U.K. legal woes. On the opposite sideline I watched players showcase their affinity for shooting and dribbling while displaying obvious disdain for anything remotely resembling defense, as evidenced by a lead that changed with every possession.
The absence of any real competition … (37 comments)

gotham realty group: Don't Google It, Topeka It... - 04/01/10 03:45 AM
Google is no more...
In an unprecedented decision Google, Inc. has decided to change it's name to Topeka, Inc. in honor of the city's recent decision to change it's name to Google, Kansas.

As April Fool's Day pranks go, this one is a doozy. Not because of any confusion over the name (I'm sure most people understand it's meant to be humorous) but because of the massive reach of this "joke." The name "Topeka" will be in front of the entire world for an entire day. Domestic and international news outlets are covering this story as if it's real news.
And, this could be a … (6 comments)

gotham realty group: I'm Not a Criminal, Are You?... Prove It! - 06/10/09 02:24 PM
Today I was forced to prove I wasn't a criminal. No, not to the FBI, the Overland Park Police Department or even the 80-year-old security officer at the mall. I had to provide irrefutable evidence of my upstanding citizenship by furnishing a copy of my driver's license to a LENDER!
This company is not just any lender, though... definitely not a "mom & pop" mortgage shop. It happens to be subsidiary of one of the largest lenders in the US. Let's call them "Company A." I was informed that without proof of my "good guy status," we would be unable to close.

gotham realty group: Vanity Facebook URLs Available Soon - 06/09/09 10:44 AM
Beginning Saturday June 13, 2009 Facebook is joining the ranks of Twitter, Myspace and other social networks by providing vanity URLs for account holders.
In my opinion, that's great news for everyone, but especially for real estate agents. Realtors, brokers and their companies tend to spend lots of time and sometimes lots of money creating consistent, recognizable brands. And, the ability be "top of mind" in the eyes of potential clients and recruits, can contribute heavily to success in real estate.
If you don't believe me, try naming 10 toothpaste brands in 10 seconds. How about 10 bar soaps? Okay, I'll give … (73 comments)

gotham realty group: Brighten Your Day and Your Attitude - 06/05/09 07:00 PM
Today is my 32nd birthday. LOL. And, frankly, sometimes I can stress a little bit. However, after a tough day at the office, I can let the stress of the day carry-on into my personal life or I can change my attitude. Changing my attitude has proven it can be a challenge
Recently, I found a solution... when I am feeling particularly bad, I visit http://icanhascheezburger.com.
There is at least one thing that makes me smile EVERY time I visit. So,I try to share it with everyone. However, don't take my word for it. Use it and let me know what you … (2 comments)

gotham realty group: Are You a Real Estate Soap Opera Star? - 06/05/09 05:00 PM
Today was one of THOSE days. When I woke up this morning, there should have been a deep-voiced narrator saying; "Like homes in the MLS, these are the "Days of Our Realtors..."
In college, at the University of Kansas, I was always late for my 1 o'clock class because I couldn't miss "Days of Our Lives." Having grown to love the drama surrounding Salem's most interesting families, I escaped into their world one hour at a time. However, the excitement of starring in a real life soap opera is something that I can do without.
My day started with a frantic phone call … (9 comments)

gotham realty group: Active Rain Saves the Day... and My Shoulders! - 06/03/09 08:08 PM
After a very brief stint on Wordpress, "Mr. Gotham's World" has moved to Active Rain thanks to Mr. Joel Kruse, resident Active Rain Guru and customer service wizard.
Having spent countless hours, days and weeks searching for the "right" tool to help this blog thrive, I thought I would never quite find what I was looking for. Spending an enormous amount of time and money to maintain the site was about as appealing as showing a client 150 homes, in 100+ degree heat, while driving and H1 Hummer without A/C as gas prices hover around $7 a gallon.
Adding insult to … (2 comments)

gotham realty group: "Mr. Gotham's World" finally arrives in Kansas City - 06/03/09 04:23 PM

T-Minus... oh, wait! The countdown is over. Today marks the official debut of "Mr. Gotham's World "on Active Rain.
During the past 10 or so days I have started more than 15 different posts searching for the "right" one to inaugurate this site. Some were funny. Some were smart. And, some were both funny and smart.
However, nothing I wrote captured the enormity of the excitement, fear and pride that I am currently experiencing, so I decided to just briefly "shoot from the hip." The excitement and fear reflect my feelings about beginning and continuing this new … (3 comments)

gotham realty group: Still Using E-flyers to Market Listings? Try Flickr - 05/22/09 04:32 PM
Breaking news...! I am the latest official victim of the C1B1 Flu, aka 'The Blog Flu.' (See one, be one. See a blogger, be a blogger... get it?) Oh, never mind. that's much to corny for the sophisticated minds at Active Rain. ;)
It had only been a few hours since my last post when I started composing this one, but then I fell asleep. For some reason my mind was still writing even though my fingers had long ago ceased to type. And, if you haven't read my last post, (T-Minus 10 Days and Counting...) you may want to, because … (5 comments)

gotham realty group: T-Minus 10 Days and Counting... - 05/21/09 04:09 PM
On June 1, 2009 I am going to re-invent myself. Ten days from now I'm going  to do something that will change my life and career forever... I'm going to officially start blogging. It's my 'mid-year resolution.'
On the surface, that probably doesn't seem like a big deal. Blogging is just typing a few simple words a couple of times a week, right? Unfortunately, when people tell me "you should really start blogging" it evokes the same response as the phrases "you need a root canal," "you're being audited by the IRS" or "Congratulations, you're having sextuplets!" I PANIC! My heart … (42 comments)
