sandpoint blog: Wine of the Day: Sandpoint Blog - 09/29/11 06:36 AM
Efeste Big Papa Old Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

93 points and a Cellar Selection in the Wine Enthusiast, the 2007 scored 94 points and 95 in the Wine Spectator.

An immense wine, inky purple, packed with black and purple fruits, laced with smoke and espresso, and finished with fine-grained, substantial tannins. This Cab lives up to its name––it’s a Big Muthah as well as Papa, and should be cellared for optimal expression.

Few wines get these kinds of scores and you won’t find this wine for this price anywhere but Yoke’s.

I am very proud of our … (2 comments)

sandpoint blog: The Best Wine in the World - K Vintner's Royal City, Sandpoint Wine of the Day: Sandpoint Blog - 09/27/11 03:42 AM
2008 Royal City Syrah – Charles Smith Wines
This ‘K Vintners’ Syrah scored 99 points in the Wine Advocate and the ’06 scored the unheard of, never awarded and coveted 100 points in the Spectator. It is a rare wine, and last year we were allocated just two bottles. Our rep must be growing, because this year we were allotted two cases. We are down to just four bottles left.
They get just one ton of the syrah grapes grown for this wine to the acre. Every vintage seems to get better. Deeper than the ’06, more luxurious than the ’07. … (1 comments)

sandpoint blog: Pend Oreille Arts Council – Supporting the Arts and so much more: Sandpoint Blog - 09/26/11 04:09 AM
I recently had Kim Brown Queen on my show North Idaho Arts & Adventure. I’ve known Kim since she first came to town and we interviewed her right after she took over the reins at POAC. By all accounts, Kim has done an outstanding job, and while there are other groups and organizations that support the arts, without POAC, I doubt Sandpoint would be the art town many consider us to be.
This was one of the first questions tackled by Kim.
Q – POAC is a strong force in promoting the arts in our area. There are other groups … (0 comments)

sandpoint blog: A Wine Tasting with Gordy Venneri of Walla Walla Vintners: Sandpoint Blog - 09/25/11 12:12 PM
Over the last two weeks I have been to several wine tastings and met with the winemakers from some of our region’s best wineries.
Last week I met Welcome Gordy Venneri, Owner/Winemaker of Walla Walla Vintners. Now, to be fair, we carry virtually every wine they make, so I wasn’t there to be sold. I was there to sample his wonderful wines and you should, too.
See, in 1997 when I wrote my first book, Passion For Wine, I stated that Washington State was the best wine producing area in the world. I have to tell you, I was living in … (1 comments)

sandpoint blog: The Victor – A Short Feature Film About Redemption: Sandpoint Blog - 09/25/11 04:00 AM
In the last seven years, I have interviewed hundreds of people on my radio shows showcasing Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry, and North Idaho. With the total of folks being on the shows over 1,000 now, I guess you can say I know a bit about my community and have encountered all kinds and talked about most subjects.
That being said, this movie touched me.
I first met Luke Jiles when I was getting a new iPhone. Luke helped me and we talked about the short film he was making. He starred in the flick, but had a great cast of characters and … (0 comments)

sandpoint blog: Sandpoint: A Small Town with a Big Heart – A Celebration of Community: Sandpoint Real Estate Blog - 09/24/11 02:25 PM
Not long ago the thought filled my brain that I should invite Tina Friedman to my show: North Idaho Arts & Adventure. See, Tina had written and photographed the best big book on Sandpoint: Sandpoint: A Small Town with a Big Heart. The book has over 1,000 photos of our beautiful area, and over 100 stories about the area, our folk, and the like.
Needless to say, it is a great book on its own merits and the pics are stellar. Tina is a gifted photographer, and the stories are topical and often touching. Still, that isn’t the only reason to … (1 comments)

sandpoint blog: Drug Drop-off Program - An interview with Tarah Neujahr of BGH: Sandpoint Blog - 09/15/11 07:30 AM
I interviewed Tarah Neujahr, Marketing and Communications Director of Bonner General Hospital Tuesday on my radio show: North Idaho Business. Tarah was on the show to talk about the Bonner County Drug Drop-off Program.
One in five teens nationwide experiment with drugs, often perscription that they get from relative's and friend's medicine cabinets. While often the drugs are consumed, just as often they are simply thrown away when the user discovers they don't get them high, or they have a bad experience.
The program doesn't accept needles or liquids, but is anonymous and is a great benefit to our environment.

sandpoint blog: Sandpoint & North Idaho Autumn Recreation Guide 2011 - What's new this Fall: Sandpoint Real Estate Guide - 09/15/11 06:49 AM
Every year I put out North Idaho's only Fall Recreation Guide. With Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort (Top 25 Ski Resorts-Skiing Magazine) right above Sandpoint, and 148 square mile Lake Pend Oreille at our shores, summer and winter are our natural draws.
However, last year, we had a beautiful and extended Autumn season. In fact, it was so wonderful, three national articles touted our region.
This year portends to be the same. Point is, there is lots to do during Fall in North Idaho.
Here is the link to the North Idaho Fall Recreation Guide.
Here are some pics to entice you:

sandpoint blog: Interview with Kyler Wolf about the upcoming Wild & Scenic Film festival: Sandpoint Blog - 09/14/11 01:57 PM
I worked with Kyler in real estate for years. Currently he is the Board President of the Clark Fork – Pend Oreille Conservancy.
Kyler was on my North Idaho Business show to talk about the upcoming Wild & Scenic Film festival on October 7th & 8th at the Panida Theater.
Here is how the interview went:
Tell me a little about the Clark Fork – Pend Oreille Conservancy:
The Clark Fork-Pend Oreille Conservancy (CFPOC) is a land trust that works with the landowners and organizations in the Clark Fork River and Lake Pend Oreille watersheds to protect, maintain, and enhance natural … (0 comments)

sandpoint blog: Sandpoint Waterfront for the 2011 Season: Sandpoint Waterfront Blog - 09/14/11 01:37 PM
To be honest, the Sandpoint market is still not where it should be given our discounted pricing currently. If you are looking for waterfront property at any of the bigger (or even smaller) more popular lakes anywhere in the country, chances are you will pay more than in and around Sandpoint, Idaho.
Still, that being said, my team and I are having a pretty good year.
Last Monday we had an accepted offer on our third waterfront sale this season. We specialize in waterfront and water view properties in Sandpoint and this region of North Idaho. Two were on Lake Pend … (1 comments)

sandpoint blog: Scootin' Sisters 4th Annual Toys for Tots Ride: Sandpoint Blog - 09/14/11 03:20 AM

sandpoint blog: Remembering 9/11 and why I live in Sandpoint - 09/11/11 04:11 AM

My last time in the World Trade Center was going to Windows on the World in 1997. I was in New York to sign my book deal with Hastings House. I decided to visit the Greatest Bar on Earth on the 106th (or was it the 107th) floor with my best friend and attorney, Roy Levine. Roy was there with me to go over the contracts for my book.
I had visited the World Trade Center twice before, once to have dinner at Windows on the World. Being in NY because of my book Passion For Wine, it was a … (0 comments)

sandpoint blog: Wine of the Week - Caterina 2008 Viognier: Sandpoint Blog - 09/07/11 03:56 AM
I love my job. Great wines and in an area known for producing the best wines in the world. I moved here to do what I love. This is a big part of it. Yoke's Ponderay is meeting its sales goals as the top seller of wine in the region, and I just had an accepted offer for my third waterfront home since October.
The Caterina 2008 Viognier is an outstanding wine that is only one of two locally produced wines that made the Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Wines of the Year. It was vinified by winemaker Mike Scott and is … (0 comments)

sandpoint blog: A Short Hike on Schweitzer Mountain Overlooking Sandpoint, Idaho: Sandpoint Real Estate Blog - 09/02/11 04:38 AM
After hosting the Speak Up North Idaho radio show today, I met with my realty partner, Judy Delucchi, up on Schweitzer Mountain, named in the Top 25 Ski Resorts by Skiing Magazine. Judy was on the mountain to preview listings for clients from Texas who are now sending their children to experience the area. I have to admit, we have been very busy this summer and our closings and offers on the table prove it.
Schweitzer Village is being prepped for this weekend's Fall Fest. Pretty cool. I went up the mountain to ride the ski lift to the top and hike … (2 comments)

sandpoint blog: Cool stuff going on in Sandpoint on the North Idaho Business radio show: Sandpoint Blog - 08/09/11 01:54 PM
On my North Idaho Business radio show today we had a string of great events talked about. First, the Festival at Sandpoint continues with headliners such as Josh Ritter, Michael Franti, and Randy Crowell. Let's not forget the finale with a free wine tasting with over 30 area wineries represented.
Also, Sally Dennison appeared with a couple of her cohort artists to talk about the Artists' Studio Tour taking place this weekend and next. Learn more about this self-guided tour at www.ArtTourDrive.org

Next we had the 6th Annual Fly In taking place this Saturday at the Sandpoint Airport. http://www.eaa.org/calendar/eventdetail.aspx?id=9647

Sandpoint, Idaho: Voted the 'Most Beautiful' Town in America in Rand McNally's Best Small Towns in American - Best of the Road Rally
Sandpoint, Idaho was once again featured on the national scene in the Rand McNally's announcement on July 21, 2011 for being the 'Most Beautiful' town in America. Narrowed down from more than 600 submissions, 30 top towns in five categories — Most Beautiful, Most Patriotic, Friendliest, Most Fun, and Best for Food — were selected for review during the inaugural Best of the Road Rally.
I was very proud of being prominently interviewed in Where to Retire … (2 comments)

sandpoint blog: This is the thread that developed when my iPhone died: Sandpoint Blog - 07/20/11 03:52 PM

Gary - My iPhone passed away yesterday. Old gurl was almost three years old (that's 120 in cell phone years). She had been running slower lately, and been showing signs of her age. Her screen is now a white background with a group of straight lines on one side. I will miss you gurl. RIP.
Cathy - My sincere condolences... however, a new girl will come along soon and, while you'll never forget your first, it will ease the pain.
Gary - I know, but she was such a hard worker, multi-tasking, surfing the web with me, and...let's be honest. … (5 comments)

sandpoint blog: WINE OF THE WEEK - Steals and Deals: Sandpoint Blog - 07/15/11 08:55 AM

While many of the more spendy wines are fantastic, my goal, personally, is to find incredible wines rated 90 points or above that are mouth-watering and less than $10. Okay, this is not an easy task, but it is my goal.
This week I have chosen nine great wines either $10 or under, or within a buck or two of that benchmark.
Here they are:
Cinder Rosé - This Snake River Valley AVA wine has a winemaker who worked at Chateau Ste. Michelle to cut her teeth. Her style is, in my opinion, decidedly French, and her wines are top-notch. … (4 comments)
