2008 Royal City Syrah – Charles Smith Wines This ‘K Vintners’ Syrah scored 99 points in the Wine Advocate and the ’06 scored the unheard of, never awarded and coveted 100 points in the Spectator. Not long ago the thought filled my brain that I should invite Tina Friedman to my show: North Idaho Arts & Adventure. See, Tina had written and photographed the best big book on Sandpoint: Sandpoint: A Small Town with a Big Heart. The book has over 1,000 photos of our beautiful area, and over 100 stories about the area, our folk, and the like. Needless to say, it is a great book on its own merits and the pics are stellar. I interviewed Tarah Neujahr, Marketing and Communications Director of Bonner General Hospital Tuesday on my radio show: North Idaho Business. Tarah was on the show to talk about the Bonner County Drug Drop-off Program. One in five teens nationwide experiment with drugs, often perscription that they get from relative's and friend's medicine cabinets. While often the drugs are consumed, just as often they are simply thrown away when the user discovers they don't get them high, or they have a bad experience. My last time in the World Trade Center was going to Windows on the World in 1997. I was in New York to sign my book deal with Hastings House. I decided to visit the Greatest Bar on Earth on the 106th (or was it the 107th) floor with my best friend and attorney, Roy Levine. Roy was there with me to go over the contracts for my book. I love my job. Great wines and in an area known for producing the best wines in the world. I moved here to do what I love. This is a big part of it. Yoke's Ponderay is meeting its sales goals as the top seller of wine in the region, and I just had an accepted offer for my third waterfront home since October. Hard to beileve I was carrying five mortgages just a couple of years ago. My real estate business had slowed down to a trickle, I was getting divorced after 20 years of marriage, and bankruptcy was on the horizon. Last night my girlfriend called me to tell me she was on a call. She is part of Northside Fire Department and the call was a breached large gas line. An excavation crew had punctured the large pipe in spite of having a map. Maps are only so accurate. O'Hally is a super hero, but so are all the firefighters in her crew. She told me the gas was coming out so intensely it blew hair back. While talking to her on the phone, the best description of the sound I can come up with is 'screaming.' In the $500,000 to $1,000,000 range of homes on Lake Pend Oreille in Sandpoint, Idaho, I'm not doin' too bad. In October I closed a home on Sunnyside for a very nice couple from Virginia. The home was originally listed for $1,200,000. Through negotiations, we saved that couple almost a half million. Then, just yesterday, I closed a transaction for a home in Ponder Point on the lake for another couple from Virginia. Nope, they don't know each other, but soon will.
