sandpoint real estate: Secret Thai Cafe: Sandpoint Blog - 08/14/10 06:38 AM
So, on my show, North Idaho Business, broadcast on the Talk North Idaho radio network, I interviewed the Secret Thai Cafe last Tuesday. I had first encountered this couple of a Thai wife and American husband at last year's Festival at Sandpoint. They had been in the vendor booth next to Dish Home Cooking. I helped at the Festival as well as lending a hand at the Dish booth. We traded food with the Thai guys, and it was good, but I couldn't help but notice for every ten people served at the Dish booth, they served one. A little slow … (0 comments)

sandpoint real estate: Sandpoint & North Idaho Waterfront Real Estate Blog: Sandpoint Blog - 08/05/10 01:49 PM
My name is Gary Lirette and I specialize in waterfront in and around Sandpoint, Idaho. This includes Lake Pend Oreille and the Pend Oreille River primarily, and Lake Cocolalla. To a lesser degree, we also have extensive knowledge of the Priest River, the Moyie and Kootenai Rivers, Pack River, Rapid Lightning Creek, the Clark Fork River, and the lesser lakes around Lake Pend Oreille.
Last one is on the Sunnyside Peninsula. Best location in town in the opinion of many. Almost .7 acres with 100' of frontage. Probably overpriced, but there simply isn't that much competition for lots like this.

sandpoint real estate: Artists' Studio Tour offers great fun during the Festival at Sandpoint: Sandpoint Blog - 07/27/10 11:12 AM

For many years I have supported the arts, hosting and paying for over fifty art events in Bonner and Boundary counties in the last five years. I host the radio show North Idaho Arts & Adventure as part of that support. Last Tuesday I interviewed some of the artists from this year's Artists' Studio Tour. It is pretty cool because no matter the day you are in Sandpoint and our neck of the North Idaho woods, you can call and set up your own tour based on your schedule.
The group also offers set days with tours pre-scheduled. Those are … (0 comments)

sandpoint real estate: Take a seaplane flight around Lake Pend Oreille and Sandpoint in North Idaho: Sandpoint Blog - 07/27/10 10:24 AM

On my weekly radio show, North Idaho Arts & Adventure, I interviewed Stephen Ruff, pilot and owner of Sandpiont Seaplane Service. You may remember last year when I posted pics from one of these flights: http://activerain.com/blogsview/1235832/sandpoint-aerial-tour-pictures-and-photos-of-sandpoint-and-lake-pend-oreille-from-the-air
It was a truly memorable experience and I highly suggest the ride to anyone looking to have an enjoyable afternoon in our neck of the woods. It is a great picture taking opportunity, and general fun for all ages.
The flights encompass all of North Idaho and Lake Pend Oreille, and the map below gives you an idea of the area:

I was told the improvements at Riley Creek were pretty cool, so I stopped by to see for myself. The new pavillion is awesome, the bike paths great, in fact it was all wonderful.
I opine that it would be a fantastic picnic date, a perfect family reunion, or even the ideal spot for a wedding. Hey, don't let me be the only voice, check out the pics and judge for yourself:

sandpoint real estate: Bird Aviation Museum hosts a truly special event July 17th: Sandpoint Blog - 07/13/10 03:10 PM
The museum will have a special event titled, WOMEN OF COURAGE, on Saturday, July 17th.  It is to honor the WASPS (WOMEN's AIR FORCE SERVICE PILOTS) from WWII.  These ladies are 87 plus years of age now, flew 60,000,000 miles in WWII...
On Tuesday I interviewed Tom Aisenbrey, one of the organizers of the event. Tom spent many years of his life influenced by these great ladies, and started planning this event last year. Out of the 1,000 ladies who flew, only roughly 270 survive, and most can't make the journey. However, twenty will grace the Bird Aviation Museum with stories and wisdom … (0 comments)

sandpoint real estate: The New Hardwood Grill in Priest River: Sandpoint Blog - 07/13/10 03:00 PM
Remember the Power House Bar and Grill? Mark and Sara Clarkston owned that joint until the successful chain Craggy Range took over. When they went belly up, we all realized that maybe that wasn't such a good location. Mark wanted to own the dirt and bought the building in Priest River two years ago July 11th.
They serve comfort food like steaks and seafood, all grilled over apple wood or smoked in the smoker.
Nice kitchen set-up, a dining room that seats 120, and a comfortable and easy access location.

sandpoint real estate: New guidelines from Army Corp of Engineers could affect your dock: Sandpoint Blog. - 06/29/10 11:18 AM
In years past the range down from Albeni Dam was only a foot or so, not enough to cause any damage to your dock along the Pend Oreille River, and to a lesser degree, in Lake Pend Oreille. Those with docks on the Priest River are all to familiar with ice flows that, with higher water flow, rise up and literally take docks downstream with them.
This could be one of the outcomes of the new operating range of the Albeni Dam.
So, the Army Corp of Engineers has extended an Invitation to a Open House June 30, Wednesday 4-7 p.m. … (0 comments)

sandpoint real estate: 4th of July and Bayview Daze on Lake Pend Oreille July 2, 3, & 4th: Sandpoint Blog - 06/25/10 11:10 AM
Bayview Daze is an annual festival held on the weekend closest to the 4th of July. There is a street market where the businesses provide special prices on their goods, and there is a great time for young and old alike. A street parade during the day on Saturday, a lighted boat parade at dusk, and a fireworks display at dark are the highlights of the event.
This is a special year because on May 29th, Bayview celebrated its centennial. Plus, with Sandpoint announcing they would be cutting back on their fireworks, Bayview's Saturday night display is just the ticket. Hope, Idaho … (0 comments)

sandpoint real estate: Sandpoint 2010 Summer Sampler a serious good time for a bit of flavorful fun: Sandpoint Blog - 06/25/10 10:00 AM
The 2010 Sandpoint Summer Sampler was a blast under clear blue summer skies with fun and food to warm the soul. This was the fifth year of the event, and yours truly was the MC. Having hogged the mike two previous years, this was by far the best. We had postponed the event for a week due to rain, yet the delay did not keep the crowds from joining with sixteen restaurants and vendors presenting some of Sandpoint and North Idaho's finest fare.

sandpoint real estate: Laughing Dog Brewing expanding to 26 states - another Sandpoint Success Story: Sandpoint Blog - 06/20/10 01:18 PM
I interviewed Mike Deprez, former PGA golf pro of the Idaho Club and sales manager for Laughing Dog Brewing on my radio show, North Idaho Arts & Adventure. During that interview Mike announced that Laughing Dog was moving into its new digs and expanding to 26 states, becoming a national player on the beer scene.
Sandpoint continually produces these wonderful, national companies. Our first billion dollar corporation was Coldwater Creek, followed last year by Litehouse Foods. With Quest Aircraft, Lignetics, Encoder, Thorne Research, and now Laughing Dog, Sandpoint has made its presence known as a high-end manufacturing town. And there are many … (0 comments)

sandpoint real estate: Alpacas, buffalo, elk, and other exotic livestock a way of life in North Idaho: Sandpoint Blog - 06/20/10 12:50 PM
Snowmass Alpacas, right next to Rapid Lightning Quarter Horses, is a great example of a niche industry that businessmen in North Idaho have fostered. Browns Buffalo in Priest River, elk ranches in Vay near Priest River and up in Bonners Ferry at the Selkirk Mountain Elk Ranch all have found markets for wool, meat, and horns.

Here are some pics of the alpacas at Snowmass:
