sandpoint realtor: When the chips are down, become innovative and work harder: Sandpoint Real Estate Blog - 09/01/11 06:05 AM

Hard to beileve I was carrying five mortgages just a couple of years ago. My real estate business had slowed down to a trickle, I was getting divorced after 20 years of marriage, and bankruptcy was on the horizon. Losing everything, I put into motion a plan to become solvent and get my business back on track.
First, I had to get my real estate business going stronger. I already had one of the most viewed websites in our area: www.SandpointID.net. I had been using YouTube a bit, and was on all the typical sites such as Linkdin and Hot … (0 comments)

sandpoint realtor: Some interesting statistics about where buyers come from: Sandpoint Real Estate Blog - 02/16/11 06:06 AM
We've been going through the Matthew Ferrara Learning Network (http://www.mflearn.com/) with one of his short learning videos at our weekly Wednesday meetings for Tomlinson Sandpoint Sotheby's International Realty.
Here are some interesting statistics that he pointed out:
Where to buyers of real estate come from?
Agent 38%
Internet 37%
Sign 11%
Friend 6%
Newspaper 2%
Magazine <1%
That's right. Print advertising in total is less than 3%! By some accounts, 97% of all buyers now see the listing through the internet.
Agent contacts, their inner circle and sphere of influence still is tops, followed closely by internet. How do agents get … (0 comments)

sandpoint realtor: Questions a good Sandpoint Realtor might ask a Seller: Sandpoint Real Estate Blog - 02/10/11 01:37 AM

Here are some notes which are a compilation of several meetings of brainstorming about Sellers.

SELLER COUNSELING

If your REALTOR® did everything right, what would you expect them to do?
If they did everything right, and the home did not sell, what would you think the reason(s) would be?
If one of the reasons was the price was too high, do you think that chasing the market could ultimately hurt the home getting sold?
How much effort are you willing to put into this process to achieve your goal of selling?
It has been our experience that sellers … (0 comments)

sandpoint realtor: A wine tasting with Patrick Rawn: Vineyard owner of Two Mountain Winery - 01/22/10 01:19 AM
In 1997, Hastings House published my book: Passion for Wine. For years I had worked with top-rated restaurants, with people like Emeril Legasse, and at places like Commander's Palace in New Orleans. Guess I have some skills. So, when my best friend opened a restaurant here - Dish Home Cooking - I volunteered to lend a hand. So, I put together their wine list, offering over 25 wines rated 90 points or better, and eighteen wines with accolades such as Editor's Choice or Best Buy. Most of these wines are under $25.
You might think, "What is a REALTOR doing waiting … (0 comments)

sandpoint realtor: Sandpoint Real Estate Blog: The best read in North Idaho - An interview of Trish Gannon & the River Journal - 01/21/10 01:50 PM
I had the great pleasure of interviewing Trish Gannon, the editor of perhaps our best publication: the River Journal. Trish is one of those totally unassuming people that does the best of work in a job that gives the least of accolades. What I mean is, we have a newspaper in Sandpoint. We have several other publications. Here is the truth: our other publications are okay: exactly what you would expect in a small town. Sandpoint Magazine is admirable, at times the local paper is laughable, but they really do try hard. The Sandpoint Reader is little better than a marginal … (0 comments)

sandpoint realtor: The Truth About Our Economy - A View of the Future of Sandpoint and the Inland NW's Economic Outlook - 03/15/09 07:29 AM
By Gary Lirette, host of the North Idaho Business radio show on KSPT and KBFI, economic researcher, and REALTOR® for Tomlinson Sandpoint Sotheby's International Realty
Recently, I attended a lecture by Anthony Grasst, a very astute MBA who runs a mortgage division of MetLife. It was gratifying to hear words of wisdom that offered another view of our economy besides the doom and gloom one hears on the radio waves or sees on the tube.
Graast explained that the job losses after the dot.com boom/bust and 9/11 was, if not worse than we are having now, at least comparable.
According to … (3 comments)

sandpoint realtor: I Commit - 03/15/09 07:25 AM
Living in the paradise of Sandpoint, Idaho, where I have found more and better friends than any place I have ever been before, though these troubled times have weighed heavy on my soul, these thoughts have prevailed upon me:
This I commit:
I commit to be positive every day, to help others to find that which can help us all to discard depression and see that which is best in the world.
I commit to buying locally, helping my fellow business people survive in this down economy.
I commit to look back on the last thirty days and if I haven't … (3 comments)

sandpoint realtor: What should you expect from your Sandpoint Real Estate agent? - 02/14/09 07:06 AM
These days, as bankers commit acts that many believe should be criminal, and mortgage brokers make loans that are questionable at best, it seems that expectations have been lowered to an all-time low.
As Americans we should expect more.
So, what should you expect from your Sandpoint real estate agent?
Certainly you should have a knowledgeable REALTOR®.
What kind of knowledge should your agent have? College educated? A builder? An interior designer? Someone who renovates homes? Knowledge of the area?
Here is what I offer for a base of knowledge:
•·         College educated.
•·         Investor and owner of several homes locally.
