things to do in north idaho: Wine of the Week - Caterina 2008 Viognier: Sandpoint Blog
- 09/07/11 03:56 AM
I love my job. Great wines and in an area known for producing the best wines in the world. I moved here to do what I love. This is a big part of it. Yoke's Ponderay is meeting its sales goals as the top seller of wine in the region, and I just had an accepted offer for my third waterfront home since October. The Caterina 2008 Viognier is an outstanding wine that is only one of two locally produced wines that made the Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Wines of the Year. It was vinified by winemaker Mike Scott and is (0 comments)

Nine years ago Lisa and Tom Guscott gave up the corporate life in New York and started their new life in Sandpoint, Idaho. Theirs was a storybook romance. Lisa had been a model and Tom worked the corporate world. They came here looking for a simpler life. The early years were fun and trying, Lisa with a new baby and the two of them starting a new life opening Arlo's Ristorante right next to the Cedar Street Bridge on Sandpoint's main drag, First Avenue. They originally opened the restaurant with Lisa's brother, Chris Arlo, but soon the couple took over the (5 comments)

That great time of year is fast approaching. Better weather, big crowds, sock hop, street dance, and so much fun. Here is an article published in the Bonner County Daily Bee about last year's party: click here. They reported over 600 cars in the vintage car parade. To see what was going on, visit www.Lostinthe50s.org Here is what it looked like on the Saturday morning 2010: Band playing at Farmin Park Looking down Main Street from the clock tower in Farmin Park Kids playing in the fountain at Jeff Jones Square Over 600 vintage cars on display Arlo's Ristorante, like most (4 comments)
things to do in north idaho: Bio-Luminesce Fire Dancers perform at Pend d'Oreille Winery for Sandpoint Winter Carnival: Sandpoint Blog
- 01/14/11 03:39 PM
The Bio-Luminesce Firedancers have performed for the last five years at the Sandpoint Winter Carnival. They have always performed in the courtyard at Pend d'Oreille Winery. However, in the last two years they have attracted a crowd upwards of 200 people, so this year, the street was closed off. I was there tonight, and though I estimate there weren't more people this year, there were as many as previous years, and we all had a better view and more room. The winery was packed, the rain held off, and it was a good time had by all. Here is a cool (1 comments)

So, this is the 37th Sandpoint Winter Carnival. Like many I have volunteered in the past, and now run www.SandpointWinterCarnival.org to diplay how things went for the previous years. For the best pics of previous years, this is the site to visit. This year features two new events: Skijoring at the Bonner County Fairgrounds both Saturday and Sunday and a Country Western Dinner & Hoedown from 5 p.m.-on at Trinity at City Beach. The Hoedown gives us something we have never had which is something to do in town after the Schweitzer Torchlight Parade and Fireworks. Plus, some people just don't want to (0 comments)

things to do in north idaho: Love is like a snowflake-I think I'll hike the Roman Nose: Gary Lirette
- 11/21/10 04:01 AM
The Roman Nose-Naples, Idaho in winter Snowflakes I awaken thinking of you. The world outside is cold; winter has made its entrance through two wide doors, the world overwhelmed by its majesty. Snow has fallen, and soon our lives will be blanketed with a cover of white. It is a time for snugs and hugs, fires and carols. Anticipation baits the breaths of skier and snowboarders, ice skaters and fishermen. Almost time. Almost... My thoughts go to walking the Alpine Lakes of the Roman Nose in Naples. I imagine walking with you, hand in hand, frost vaporizing from our short-of-breath open (2 comments)

The third Tuesday of every month I host the radio show North Idaho Arts & Adventure. This Tuesday I interviewed Alex Stanton who is one of the organizers for OKB, or Operation Kill Boredom. Operation Kill Boredom (OKB) is dedicated to destroying boredom amongst teenagers... Some of the choice ways of destroying that boredom has been by putting on concerts, tribals, game nights, film festivals, band mix up nights, and a WHOLE LOT MORE! things to do in north idaho: Eagles of North Idaho - Awe inspiring, and a reminder of our National Heritage
- 01/23/09 11:45 AM
Before I start, let me give you the inspiration for this article. As I drove in to work the two odd miles over the Long Bridge that crosses gigantic Lake Pend Oreille, I was graced by not one, but two eagles in flight. A juvenile, not yet crested with the white crown so distintive to the breed, flew on the lake side of the bridge. On the river side a young bald eagle, this one with the familiar white headed plumes, soared on hard blowing winds with a wing-span of almost five feet. This is a common occurrence, and virtually every (0 comments)
