blogging on active rain: Back To Square One? Probably Not - 01/07/12 03:45 AM

I had a great December...personally and professionally!
I had successful closings of some transactions....smooth ones at that. My husband had some successful closings for his business. I had many wonderful family events for the holidays. It was a nice Christmas season.
I also started working out twice a week with a personal trainer and began a running program. I am very tired!
The first week I found that afternoon naps were making their way into my day....what about the extra energy this was supposed to create?
I'd run after carpool in the morning and then twice a week, … (10 comments)

blogging on active rain: Adding To Your Day......While Keeping What Works In Tact - 11/18/11 02:53 AM

You might have noticed my absence from Active Rain last week (what? you had other things to do than notice I was missing....hmmmm, that's not good :)). I have been adding to my routine and not necessarily handling it all as well as I'd like.
Last March I realized my 50th birthday was looming (October 12th) and I was feeling tired and my pants were tighter than I liked. Normally this would call for a 9 day Wonder Diet right before bathing suit season....but this time I decided it was time for a lifestyle change.
I added an hour … (14 comments)

blogging on active rain: Write A Post? I Got Nothing :( - 11/10/11 05:47 AM

It's been a few days since I've posted on my blog.
It's not that I don't love writing....I do. I just got nothing. Normally these days I create my topics and point of view on my morning hikes. The past few days? nothing.
Could be that I have new shoes. "What?" It's true, I finally broke down and got some really good trail rated running shoes. I don't run....but now I am. I'd like to work on my endurance and have finally gotten to the point where "power walking" is not satisfying enough.
Me? Exercise junkie? Never in a … (24 comments)

blogging on active rain: I'm Late To The Party About Featured Posts.......But I Do Have A Thought! Market Your Posts - 10/31/11 07:22 AM

The debate/confusion/concern/conversation about featured posts in Active Rain comes up every once in a while.
WhoWhyHow OftenHow MuchHow Few
We all like to get confirmation that what we are doing is being appreciated, and read, and understood. Let's face it....we are a bunch of type-A personalities who work in an industry of sales. Sales people love titles and rankings, we just do!! Which is why the points system here is rather brillant....keeps us motivated and active.
Admit it!
So if you are one of those who feel you don't get enough....or any....featured posts, why don't you do what … (49 comments)

blogging on active rain: Occupy Google.....A Cause We Can All Get Behind? - 10/20/11 04:12 AM

We are all hearing about the Occupy Wall Street....which has lead into "Occupy This" and "Occupy That," it has spread into many different cities, causes and categories.
Ok
So I like a party...ideally with better hygiene facilities. I don't see myself packing up the VW Bus and heading down with my knitted beanie...so I thought perhaps a virtual "Occupy" might be fun.
How about Occupy Google?
That's it....albeit rather Capitalistic, guess I'd make a pretty bad hippie. Why don't we grab our keypads and create some great blog posts to push those greedy Google-hogs off page one.
This takes … (6 comments)

blogging on active rain: A Blog About Nothing - 09/06/11 12:59 PM

Why would anyone write a blog about nothing? As a stand alone posting it would really make no sense. But...as part of a whole body of blog work, it shows personality and quirkiness.
Does a potential client want personality and quirkiness in their agent? Maybe...maybe not. But if you ARE quirky, better they find out before your odd sense of humor pokes out at the wrong time.
Yes I know this seems like just another of a series of "we can blog what we want to" posts which have been making the rounds on Active Rain....but it's not. … (20 comments)

blogging on active rain: Active Rain As Big Brother? The Points Debate - 08/26/11 10:21 AM

I read a featured post today by Bryan Robertson where he was advocating changing the points system of Active Rain to award points to only certain blog posts. Those which he considered to be real estate related.
I'm burning up!
I'm sorry Bryan....and I really do have a great deal of respect and affection for you...but you are exactly wrong. I believe what sets Active Rain apart from other "real estate sites" are the more personal posts. Whenever someone wants to find a real estate professional in another part of the country, I always suggest they get on Active … (93 comments)

blogging on active rain: Not Another "Write A Blog Already" Post? Yes....It Is - 07/19/11 04:29 AM

Are you a lurker? I read a great post today by Kathy Steib giving you ideas and encouragement about what to blog about here on Active Rain.
She used the term "lurker" and admitted that she did that here for awhile before finally deciding to jump in and post. The implication is that it's scary to post and takes some courage.
I actually think that the longer you wait, lurk, the harder it gets.
When I first joined Active Rain, I really didn't understand the community aspect. I didn't appreciate that I was going to make friends and contacts here....that … (19 comments)

blogging on active rain: Daily Drop Suggestions - 06/19/11 10:29 AM

I love seeing the Active Rain Daily Drop in my inbox every day. Sometimes it showcases successes, or a milestone, or a new member, or even a great hyper-local post....but my favorites are when they seem to have a topic. Different takes on a similar topic. This allows us to really delve into many sides of an issue and do some concentrated discussions on that topic.
So I've thought of a list of possible subjects for the Daily Drop.....here to be helpful!! :)
Things that come up in my daily work as a Realtor® that warrant an industry wide … (13 comments)

blogging on active rain: Are Your Posts Public? If Not.....Upgrade - 06/18/11 07:04 AM

Do you see this little sign under your name on your blog? If not...no one but members is reading your posts!
They are not public.
I see some wonderful posts which use perfect SEO techniques and they are being "wasted" on Active Rain Members Only. This might bring you some comments, points or features...but no consumers. Very few consumers bother to become members on Active Rain. They don't need to....they just move onto other posts if one is inaccessible.
I am not being paid by AR to write this....I'm really just trying to help. I have received so much … (17 comments)

blogging on active rain: Active Rain Community? What Can We All Do To Welcome Our Lesser-Known Members? - 06/16/11 07:22 AM
I was thinking today as I read posts today. I normally go to my subscription list first....and I know you do too. Then I check out the featured posts and those in the Daily Drop. Yes to get in my 10 comments for the day...and I know you do too! Then, if absolutely necessary, I go to the main blog roll and see what's there.
And do you know what I find there? Great posts!!!

blogging on active rain: My 1000th Blog Post!!! What Should I Write About? - 06/14/11 10:39 AM

I'm at a loss for words!! (and if you read me often, you know this is rare) This is the 1000th blog post of mine here on Active Rain. How did that happen?
It sort of crept up on me. The May Challenge certainly helped so did my goal of reaching one of the top two Orange County, California positions. But really, it was just plugging along and creating a body of work....a full picture of me.

blogging on active rain: Just For Fun: Do You Ever Move Just Too Fast? The Thai Salad Did Me In - 06/04/11 06:23 AM
I make a killer Thai Chicken Salad.....one of my favorite low-cal meals because I can load it with great tasting vegies and crunch. But.....sometimes I move too fast for my own good.
Ok...so the picture is not quite an accurate picture of me, but I am typing with a bandage on one finger and I'm missing half a tooth....that darn salad got the best of me.
Sounds like we were wrestling! Not quite!
Part of the salad (recipe below) is chopped peanuts....just about a Tablespoon (50 calories). Well while finely chopping the nuts, I also chopped my finger. The wedding ring … (12 comments)

blogging on active rain: I Set A Goal And Acheived It! Little-By-Little And Day-By-Day - 06/01/11 06:03 AM
I've thought long and hard about this post...and the timing of it. I am not gloating...although remember that sales people are by nature competitive.
I've been #3 in Orange County for a rather long time on the Active Rain States List for Orange County, California. Respectable spot, but not Featured. Only 1 and 2 appear at the top of the page in the Featured Location. When a consumer happens upon that page....I want to stand out. That's part of the exposure of Active Rain and why I'm here.
I was over 40,000 points behind #2 when I decided I could overcome it … (31 comments)

blogging on active rain: Finishing What You Start Might Not Always Be Fun - 05/30/11 02:19 PM

I've done lots of things today....Memorial Day.
I've slept inI spent 3 hours off-roading with my husband in our jeepI took a napI sat in the spaI read my book about VeniceI worked on an offer for a listing of mine I had a great day...and before my hubby takes me out for dinner tonight, I'm writing my post for the May Challenge. I haven't given it much thought, nothing especially deep....but I committed to doing this, to myself and to the group, so here it is.

blogging on active rain: Just Gotta Do It..... - 05/29/11 07:50 AM

I volunteered to handle the write-up of our Master Mind Essay this month. Our fearless leader is lounging in Hawaii this week.
Aloha!
I can see from my drop box that all the members' ideas are there....waiting for me. And I'm going to do it....soon, or today...or soon.
I'm not avoiding it exactly, but group writing has never been my strong point. There...I said it! I'm more the write-what-I-think type. I'm kind of a loner. In school I HATED group projects.
Of course I never had such a great group as I do here.

blogging on active rain: Do You Have Even ONE Closing From Your Time On Active Rain? No? What Are You Doing Here? - 05/22/11 08:40 AM

Seriously? Not even ONE deal from the blogging and commenting and participating on Active Rain? Well....there must be something wrong with Active Rain...
I guess the Google Ranking has fallen
I suppose the traffic has slowed
I hear the membership is dropping
No? No.....none of that is true. So where is your deal?
"But I have points"
Sure...so does my son's video game. So what!!! What is the point of the time we spend on Active Rain?
Clients.....consumers.....deals....CLOSINGS!

blogging on active rain: The Fast Blog Post - 05/20/11 02:09 AM

I've been preaching that blog posts are pretty easy to write...and consistency is key. So I joined the 31 Day May challenge and today is the challenge.
My son graduates today and I'm out the door in 15 minutes....so this is going to be fast.
How?
I'm just writing the conversations which pops in my mind. Ironically one of my first Active Rain leads came from a quick rambling post I wrote that had nothing to do with real estate.
Today?
Off to intimidate meet my ex-husband's fiance and see my dear son graduate Law School....I'm sure this will … (9 comments)

blogging on active rain: The Two Minute Blog Post - 05/09/11 05:09 AM

When you are rushed and need to get a blog post off....yes, you know sometimes that's the case. (blah, blah, blah great content).
We all do it...and sometimes they are just for fun, like this one. So how can you manage the Two Minute Blog Post? Simple.
First....write a title. I cleverly thought of "The Two Minute Blog Post." Many great writers will tell you that the first title you come up with is often the best.
Second....find a picture. Find something which will grab attention. Does it fit the theme? or amuse? or both....I mean, does ANYTHING say "Two Minute … (21 comments)

blogging on active rain: Taking My Own Advice.....I Can Blog About Anything - 03/28/11 03:35 PM
Taking My Own Advice.....I Can Blog About Anything

I wrote a blog post this week with a list of topics you can use for your articles on ActiveRain if you have writer's block.
What To Write About Today On Your Blog
I listed a variety of topics from the dog to business. And tonight? I'm taking my own advice and blogging about something personal.
Last night I got a hug from my 6'2" 15-year old son! I know that shouldn't be amazing, but it is...and the best part is he doesn't remember, because he was sleep-walking at the time. … (11 comments)
