trim notices: Putting up a fight is worth the tax savings - 08/26/10 03:08 AM
The Florida county property appraisers mailed out their annual TRIM (Truth In Millage) notices in the last couple of weeks.  Many people don't give too much thought to these.  But that sentiment has changed some in the last few years as values spiked tremendously but have not gone down nearly as much. 
The local governments will tell you how terrible it is and how broke they are, but in looking at the taxes being paid now and then comparing them to what was paid back in 2004 or so, the dollar amount is not much different.  Makes you wonder just how broke they really … (0 comments)

trim notices: Success with property tax TRIM notice discrepency - 09/03/08 08:27 AM
About 2 weeks ago, Florida property appraisers sent out the annual TRIM notices (stands for Truth in Millage).  I started digging through the notices for my various rental properties and doing some analyzing.
So far, I found 2 of them that I wanted to contest in Orange County, Florida.  I spoke with an appraiser on one of them this morning and after a little negotiating over the telephone was able to get him to reduce my assessed value by $26,000.   This equates to about $450 in savings based on my calculations.  That was a great phone call !

trim notices: Some good news on property taxes - 09/22/07 03:23 AM
Apparently many investors and business owners are just as fired up as I am over these property tax TRIM notices.  Florida Speaker of the House, Marco Rubio, has recently stated that property tax reform will be another big issue for the 2008 legislature. That's great news. I did speak with the office of my representative David Simmons about 2 weeks ago and his position is that we need some sort of super exemption for non-homestead properties as well.
