I'm not sure what the "norm" is in various parts of the country, but I don't think it's the Buyer Agent's responsibility to help pay for the marketing fees for the Listing Agent.
In my view, if you are the listing agent, part of your responsibilities are to market the property, and there are a variety of methods available, i.e. newspaper ads, Facebook, Twitter, your Website and Realto.ca to name a few. There are also flyers I usually have made and distribure to the closest 100 homes in the area.

A few years ago I received a phone call from a lady requesting a Letter of Opinion on the value of her house. This only happens in certain circumstances and when I asked her why she needed it she told me her bank requested it.

There continues to be a shortage of listings in the Mississauga and GTA area, and market remains brisk ... that along with great, low interest rates is keeping it fuelled, making it a "Seller's market. Too many Buyers.. not enough listings.
