Hopefully the Lunsford family can sleep a little easier tonight.The judge just gave John Couey, the man that buried little Jessica Lunsford alive the death penalty.
I wonder, how long will he sit on Death Row. How long does it take the state of Florida to put a sentenced person to death?
Why do murders get an appeals process?
The person they murdered didn't get to make any appeals.
Little Jessie was told she was going home, instead she was put into a hole after being bound and placed into garbage bags. No appeals, no nothing, but a stuffed dolphin and darkness.

Mark is testifying in front of Judge Howard, the man who is left with the decision of letting John Couey, the man who buried young Jessie alive, live or die. In March the jury who found Couey guilty of murdering little Jessica and recommended death, in Florida it is the Judge who will makes the final call.

mark lunsford: A Trip To Leesburg Bike Fest & Mark Lunsford

There is a quaint town in the middle of the state, about an hour and a 45 minute ride from our house called Leesburg. Once a year they have their "Bike Week". Steve and I rode out there yesterday (and it hurts to sit today!) to join the festivities. Leesburg Bikefest has really grown to rival Daytona's Bike Week. Bikers come from all over the country to see what's happening there and the latest and greatest in choppers, bike paint, biker clothes etc...

The Jury in a 10-2 vote has recommended the death penalty in the murder/rape and kidnapping of 9 year Jessica Lunsford today. The verdict came in at about 540 EST. This however is not the end of the story, the judge in the case is the one that actually decides if Couey lives or dies by lethal injection and that decision could still take several weeks. I hope the judge goes with their decision.
I don't care what kind of upbringing anyone had. Rape and Murder are wrong. The defense tried to say Coueys upbringing was the cause of his "troubles" and … (3 comments)

Earlier today I posted Keeping Children Safe ~ Jessie's Story, One I'm Close To about the Jessica Lunsford Tragedy. Jessica Lunsford's story does not end with today's conviction of John Couey.
After Jessica was found murdered, her father, Mark Lunsford turned his grief into a mission to get laws changed, not only here in Florida but across the nation. Here in Florida we know it as Jessie's Law, it is also known as

<I've not written anything in this series lately because this story has been on my mind heavily lately and nothing else could be written until this story was able to be told. (I have one started on Elizabeth Smart, it just wasn't flowing so I put it aside) I could not tell you this story until now because of the facts I know.
