community: What's Cooking in San Macos - 08/17/09 11:57 AM
With contributions from our Kiwanis family, relatives, friends and chefs from all over, the Kiwanis Club of San Marcos has put together a GREAT cookbook.  This 240 page cookbook includes some recipes that, up until now, have never been written out.  These specific recipes have been passed down through the generations by way of hands on training in the kitchen.  There are also recipes from some of the founding families of San Marcos, including one very famous resident, Sophie Huchting (Mrs. Cubbison).  Our Kiwanis club worked very closely with the San Marcos Historical Society and have included many stories about historic San Marcos.

community: Hiking in San Diego - 05/26/09 08:05 AM
Iron Mountain via the Ellie Lane Trail
Although it may be a bit too hot to hike up to Iron Mountain in the summer, I highly recommend this hike in the cooler months.  The Ellie Lane trail route to the Iron Mountain Trail is far less traveled then the Iron Mountain trial alone plus it adds about 4 miles to the hike.  The area appears to be fully recovered from the 2003 wildfires that did so much damage with many, many different native plants.
The Ellie Lane Trailhead is just under a mile North of the highway 67 and Poway Rd … (3 comments)

What a great tag line for a coffee house!
Ryan Bros Roastery has opened a new location in San Marcos at 133 N. Twin Oaks Valley Road near the Old Spaghetti Factory. (78 and Twin Oaks Valley Rd)  Although the opening has taken a few extra months that were not planned, it was definitely worth the wait.
A wonderful place to relax and have a cup of your favorite coffee or tea with a friend.  I am not exactly sure where they get their pastries but the coffee cake was sweet (but not too sweet) , moist and very fresh.

community: Jack's Pond: Another hidden gem in San Marcos, CA - 08/22/08 04:59 AM
Jack's Pond is great little rural piece of the City that is hidden in a small canyon below the Walnut Hills area in San Marcos. There is a very easy 1 mile trail with abundant wildlife all around. I do not believe that most residents even know that it is part of our community. I took a stroll through the other day and snapped a few photos.

You can locate more information about the San Marcos Trail System on the City's web site at City of San Marcos, CA
