On this day in 1899, the rubber heel was patented by Humphrey O'Sullivan. As the story goes, Humphrey was working at a printing shop that has a stone floor so he brought in a rubber mat to stand on while working. The problem was, his fellow employees continually "borrowed" his mat. Humphrey decided to cut pieces out from the mat the size of his shoe heels and tacked them to his heels for permanent cushioning. Starting in the mortgage business in 2002, I learned all I could about the in's and out's of the various loan programs that existed. One of the most important is the importance of living and working with integrity. This is something my very first boss in the mortgage business taught me by example and I will always remember him for that. Also, how to solve problems and look for solutions in any given situation.

That's my father's picture in this post, when he was a Lieutenant in the Navy during WWII, a pilot flying both PBY Catalina's and Martin PBM Mariner's, commonly know as a patrol bomber "flying boat". I have always been so proud of him for everything he did in his life and mine and his time serving our country. He will always be my hero!
