jeff gordon: NASCAR NATION: Dry Spell Ends in the Desert - 02/27/11 12:06 PM
I was at the hospital earlier today with a family member so I was unable to watch the entire race.  But, I was so happy that I got to see the end of NASCAR's Sprint Cup race in Phoenix this afternoon when, after a long 66 winless streak, Jeff Gordon was able to end his dry spell in the desert.  He was declared the winner of the Subway Fresh Fit 500.  Congratulations to Jeff, new crew chief Alan Gustafson, the entire Drive to End Hunger team and Mr. Rick Hendricks for mixing it up enough to breathe new life into the … (5 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR NATION: Shootout at Texas Motor Speedway - 04/20/10 02:25 AM
It was a shootout at Texas Motor Speedway yesterday.  It was definitely worth a one day delay if this is what we got!  The entire weekend was rained out, so both the Sprint Cup race and Nationwide had to be run on Monday instead of Saturday and Sunday.  Finally, Jeff Gordon was the agressive, drive to the front guy we haven't seen in a while.  He was dominant for most of the day, leading the most laps of all the drivers at the Sprint Cup race.  As a Gordon fan, I was so excited thinking, "This is it!  He's gonna win … (5 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR NATION: Martinsville is a Day Late and a Dollar Short for Some - 03/29/10 01:11 PM
Martinsville ended up being a day late and a dollar short for some of NASCAR's Sprint Cup drivers.  Since yesterday's race was rained out, the drivers were able to race under cloudy but dry skies today.  I had to work but was only able to fend off my curiosity for the first half of the race.  I was listening to the live broadcast when the excitement got to be just too much.  Off went the computer and on went the TV.  I'm glad I decided to watch, too.
Jeff Gordon (#24) seemed to be doing well towards the beginning of the … (8 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR NATION: California Natives Rule at Pepsi 500 in Fontana - 10/12/09 11:36 AM
The California natives ruled at the Pepsi 500 in Fontana, CA on Sunday, October 11, 2009.  Once again, Hendrick Motorsports proved why they own the Auto Club Speedway.  I guess this is apropos for the company who is celebrating its 25th Anniversary.  After Jessie McCartney skipped a line or two of the National Anthem (practicing the national anthem before you perform it in front of a bunch of rednecks might be a good idea), grand marshal Kelsey Grammar gave the "Gentlemen, start your engines!" to begin the first Sprint Cup race to come to Southern California.  Jimmie Johnson quickly overtook pole … (7 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR NATION: $1 Million 1-2 Punch at Chicagoland Speedway - 07/13/09 05:57 AM
What started out as a pretty boring race ended up in a blaze of rubbin', bumpin' and racin' hard at Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday, July 11th.  When there were only two cautions thrown after the first 200+ laps of a 267 lap race (and those were for debris only), it appeared that no one was even close competition for Mark Martin.  He kept passing car after car, narrowing the number of cars on the lead lap down to around 14 or 15 by the end.  Jimmie Johnson ran out front for a little bit.  But, it was definitely Mark's race to … (4 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR NATION: Lifelock 400 at Michigan International Speedway - 06/14/09 04:33 PM
Holy cow!  What a way to race to the finish, folks!  When Kid Rock is the grand marshal and gives the ("Gentlemen, start...your...engines" cue at the beginning of the race, you know it's gotta be good!  After running away with the lead for most of the 200 laps, Jimmie Johnson appeared to have the checkered flag all but in his little hands when, at one lap to go, he ran out of fuel.  Heartbreakingly, Jimmie went from 1st place at the white flag (1 lap to go) to finish 22nd, after coasting into pit road, getting a splash and dash of … (2 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR NATION: Cocoa Cola 600 at Charlotte has FINALLY Finished! - 05/25/09 03:45 PM
Whew!  I knew that the Cocoa Cola 600 was supposed to be the longest race of the year, but this was just too ridiculous.  I needed a nap when it was over.  After two days, six and a half hours, 224 laps completed, TONS of rain/rain delays and an incredibly risky but ultimately smart call by Crew Chief Rodney Childers, David Reutimann won the 50th race at Lowe's Motor Speedway in the #00.  In fact, three of the six caution flags were thrown for rain.  This is so NOT the way I like to see a race end.  My driver (Jeff … (4 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR NATION: The Whirling Dervishes of Darlington 2009! - 05/11/09 12:16 PM

Whew!  What a race!  In typical Darlington fashion, these racecars turned into whirling dervishes on the track.  I don't think even one car got away without trading paint with the candy cane striped outer Darlington wall.  In the second night race in a row, there were a record 16 cautions and countless single car spins that managed to avoid being "the big one" (like the two we had at Talladega).  We even got a fireball rolling down the track thanks to Michael Waltrip in the #55.  When he dropped the engine, an oil fire ignited his car … (8 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR NATION: Rain Delay & Happy Birthday at Richmond International Raceway 2009 - 05/04/09 12:11 PM
And the win goes to the birthday boy, Kyle Busch.  After a brief rain delay, things got underway at Richmond International Raceway for Saturday's night race in NASCAR Sprint Cup's 10th race of the season.  My man, Jeff Gordon, looked like he was going to have a pretty strong run at another win until little old Shrub came on like gangbusters with about 40 or so laps to go.  Although, Jeff's 8th place finish put him at the top of the leaderboard in the points race again.  Yippee!  Was it just me or was this another pretty boring race even WITH a … (2 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR Nation: Talladega Wrecks 2009 - 04/27/09 02:39 AM
Wow!  What a race!  They don't call it the fastest track for nothing, right?  My race really ended at Lap 7, when Matt Kenseth bumped Jeff Gordon (just a race bump, not a "wanna make you wreck" bump) and sent Jeff slamming into the wall for the first big wreck of the day.  The wreck took out last week's winner, Mark Martin, for the rest of the race.  Some of the others that got caught up in the wreck were Kevin Harvick, Kasey Kahne and AJ Allmendinger, who all eventually made it back on to the track, albeit several laps down.  … (22 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR NATION: Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix - April 18, 2009 - 04/19/09 02:03 PM
Congratulations go out to pole sitter and winner: the little jockey, Mark Martin.  He's one of the nicest and most humble men in all of NASCAR.  He SO deserved it.  He was definitely the dominating car at Saturday night's race.  He was the winner at the first NASCAR race I ever attended.  So, it was lovely to see him win and get his 400th Top 10 finish of his career.  That being said, I have to tell you..that was the most painful experience watching a race that I have ever had the displeasure of watching.  As you all know, I am … (4 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR NATION: Sprint Cup's Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway Wrap-Up - 04/05/09 03:50 PM
HE DID IT!  HE DID IT!  HE DID IT!  OK, sorry about that.  I've been waiting 47 races to be able to say that.  So, I got a little excited.  My man, Jeff Gordon, won this week's Sprint Cup race at the Texas Motor Speedway.  On his 17th attempt at a win at this track, he finally got to add a check to the win column.  Now there is only one NASCAR track he has not won at in his career.  But, at the rate he's going, I'm sure he'll be able to conquer that as well.  I have to admit, … (5 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR NATION: Goody's Fast Pain Relief 500 in Martinsville VA - 03/29/09 10:27 AM
Rubbin's racin'!  Martinsville was everything Bristol wasn't.  Thank goodness!  Jimmie Johnson proved why he is a 3-time champion (in a row, might I add).  The qualifying rainout meant that my boy, Jeff Gordon, was in pole position to start the race.  I was hopeful, too, when he started so strongly.  Then it seemed to be a race between Jeff and Denny Hamlin.  At the closing stretch, it was a battle between Hamlin and eventual winner, Jimmie.  Now, I am not a fan of the spinout to win.  But, I think a little bump and run is A-OK in my book.  Although, … (5 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR NATION: Bristol Food City 500 Wrap-Up - 03/22/09 12:01 PM
Shrub did it again.  Kyle Busch dominated Bristol's Food City 500 Sprint Cup race today in Tennessee.  I love NASCAR, but I have to admit that it was a pretty boring race for the most part.  Kyle headed to the front early and didn't let up for most of the 500 laps.  Short tracks tend to have either many wrecks/cautions or long runs.  There were a total of nine yellow flags, but no major wreckage (which is a good thing for all involved).  And, happily, my boy Jeff Gordon wracked up another Top 5 finish (his third Top 5 in five … (13 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR Recap: Atlanta Motor Speedway - 03/08/09 03:53 PM
Again, always a bridesmaid and never a bride.  My man, Jeff Gordon, just couldn't quite make it to victory circle this week.  But, I'm confident that, with the year he's having so far, I will be posting a "Way To Go #24" soon.  I can't wait!  Jeff cemented his place as #1 in points, with a 43 point lead over second place Clint Bowyer.  Congratulations go to Kurt Busch, who very definitely had THE dominating car this week.  An astronomical 11 caution flags were waved today at the NASCAR Sprint Cup race.  With 31 of the 43 drivers finishing one lap … (11 comments)

jeff gordon: NASCAR Recap: Shelby 427 in Vegas - 03/01/09 01:53 PM
OK, OK.  I'm not much of a Kyle Busch fan.  We call him "shrub" in our house because he is Kurt Busch's little brother (big bush, little shrub, get it?).  In fact, I was happy when Hendricks let him go a couple of years ago.  His mouth was almost as big as his ego.  It will be nice when he humbles himself a little more so I can like him and actually start to (dare I say it?) root for him.  However, I have to admit that he is an extremely talented driver and this was quite an exciting race.  Unfortunately, Matt Kenseth … (6 comments)

jeff gordon: So Close, Mr. Gordon! - 02/23/09 01:56 PM

First of all, congratulations to Mr. Matt Kenseth for the second win in the first two weeks of NASCAR's 2009 season.  This was a much better win than last week's rainedout.  Next, my man, Jeff Gordon, was soooo close to his first win since October 2007.  I was hoping not only to be able to witness Jeff's first win in 16 months live and in person, but I was ready to be done with all the talk of how Jeff has never gone this long without a win in his career.  Both he and Greg … (12 comments)
