virtual assistance for realtors: Duh! It's National Sarcastics Awareness Month - 10/03/11 06:10 AM
As you may well be aware of (and totally supporting, might I add), it is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  This is a cause that is near and dear to my heart since I have unfortunately lost loved ones to it but am also happy to say I have loved ones who have survived as well.  That's why we need to continue supporting this cause.
However, not to take away from that, October has been chosen to honor another cause near and dear to my heart.  Duh!  It's National Sarcastics Awareness Month.  Although no "Patient 0" has been found, Sarcasm can … (7 comments)

virtual assistance for realtors: Dr Seuss Storytime at Target - 02/15/11 03:23 AM
Target is one of my absolute favorite stores.  They are always clean, the staff is friendly and they have just what I'm looking for and more at very reasonable prices.  On February 26, 2011 from 9am to 11am, Targets across the country will be hosting Dr. Seuss Storytime, a free event to encourage children to get out from in front of the television sets, computer screens and handheld entertainment devices to read a good book.  As a lover of books and someone who built up my child's library while he was still in my womb, this is something I can definitely … (2 comments)

virtual assistance for realtors: Silly Laws in Idaho - 02/09/11 01:51 PM
I was reading about America's Silliest Taxes today and wondered what kind of silly laws are on the books in Idaho.  Well, I found some really silly stuff.  Like:
Residents of Boise are not allowed to fish off a giraffe's back.  A horse, a cow, a lion, tiger or bear (oh my) is fine.  Just don't get caught fishing off a giraffe's back.  Maybe it's OK to fish off their front.  Hmmm... In Coeur d'Alene, an officer must either honk or flash his lights and wait three minutes before approaching a car in which he believes people are engaging in sex.  … (10 comments)

virtual assistance for realtors: Being Nice Takes Time - 01/19/11 02:12 AM
One thing I've learned from moving to Idaho is that being nice takes time.  In Southern California, everything is "go, go, GO"!  Very few people take the time to simply be nice.  Horns are honked and "birds" are flipped during traffic.  You can get your oil changed in 30 minutes or less.  You barely have time to step up to the register before you are bombarded with "What'll ya have?"
Since moving to Idaho, I have found that everything takes a little bit longer to do.  There is no "fast" food.  It's simply "food".  If someone takes a few extra beats … (11 comments)

virtual assistance for realtors: What is Twelfth Day? - 01/06/11 03:16 AM
Today is Twelfth Day.  But, what does that mean?  In Western Europe, they believed that the holiest day of the year was December 25th (signifying the birth of Christ).  However, in Eastern Europe, they believed that the holiest day of the year was January 6th (signifying the "epiphany", when the three wise men first appeared).  Christians couldn't agree on which day was the holiest.  In 557 AD, they decided to celebrate all 12 days between December 25th and January 6th as "holy days", which became "holidays".  That's the 12 Days of Christmas, making today, January 6th, Twelfth Day.

virtual assistance for realtors: Forget Big Brother...Momma's Watching! - 01/05/11 01:49 AM
When I read Elizabeth Cooper-Golden's blog post "Don't Pick Your Nose in Public", it reminded me about what I said to my son about paying attention to how he conducts himself online, too.
I recently allowed my son to set up his own Facebook page (he just turned 16).  Now, that may seem old by today's standards to actually begin an online presence, but I am NOT the "cool mom" (as I frequently tell him).  I will not allow him to stay up past midnight on a school night just so he can get in to Game Stop when they release … (6 comments)

virtual assistance for realtors: WORDLESS WEDNESDAY: OK, Impress Me! - 08/11/10 04:23 PM
This sign is up outside the apartment complex up the street from my house.  Everytime I drive by, I am VERY tempted to walk inside, put my hands on my hips and announce, "OK.  I'm ready to be impressed.  Impress me!"

This is a good sign to keep in mind when dealing with clients, too.  You want them to be impressed, don't you?

virtual assistance for realtors: The Power of Active Rain - It's More Than You Think - 08/10/10 11:50 AM
I've found myself out of the loop lately, with life handing my family lemons left and right (don't worry, I won't go into gory detail...let's just say that when it rains, it pours).  Today was a particularly hard one that just left me feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders (as I am sure many of you reading this have found yourselves a time or two).
I'm working on setting up my own real estate virtual assistance business (go ahead and check the website but remember it's a work in progress at the moment and all suggestions are appreciated), … (10 comments)

virtual assistance for realtors: NASCAR NATION: Jeff Gordon Welcomes Baby Boy - 08/09/10 11:16 AM
Breaking News *** Jeff Gordon and his wife, Ingrid, welcomed baby boy Leo Benjamin Gordon this morning.  He was born at 8:53 am at 7 lbs 2 oz and 19 inches long.  Is this the next NASCAR dynasty in the making?  Only time will tell.  Like a good NASCAR wife, Ingrid was able to hold off on giving birth until Monday so Jeff didn't miss out on Sunday's race at Watkins Glen.  And how lucky is this: Baby Leo was born on 8/9/10.  Congratulations to the happy family!

virtual assistance for realtors: 4th of July Celebrations in Riverside CA - 07/01/10 05:42 PM
Every year, my family tends to celebrate the 4th of July in Riverside CA in the same way.  At least, as long as we are in town for the 4th.  We pack up a cooler, grab the lawn chairs, make sure we have plenty of liquid refreshment (it does tend to be hot) and head on over to downtown Riverside to claim our spot in the parking lot of (OK, I'm not giving away my secret spot because it's getting harder and harder to cop a squat each year since the crowds grow and I don't know who's blabbing) at the … (7 comments)

Some very valuable tips on preventative measures against Identity Theft
1. Do not sign the back of your credit cards . Instead, put ' PHOTO ID REQUIRED .'
2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the 'For' line. Instead, just put the last four numbers . The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check … (0 comments)

virtual assistance for realtors: NASCAR NATION: Loud Finish at Loudon - 06/29/10 07:10 AM
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Loudon, NH on Sunday was pretty quiet for most of the race.  In fact, other than the caution at Lap 34 for debris, all laps were under green until Lap 235, when poor Kasey Kahne's engine of his #9 Budweiser car finally gave out after limping around for several laps beforehand.  There were even two green flag pit stops which shook things up a little, especially since Tony Stewart had to pit out of sequence because he didn't get enough fuel dumped into his car under the debris caution of Lap 34.  However, the … (3 comments)

virtual assistance for realtors: Have you Topeka'd Today - Google is No More - 04/01/10 02:22 AM
Have you Topeka'd today?  Google was so honored when the mayor of Topeka, Kansas announced last month that the city's name would be changed to "Google, KS" that they decided to change the name of its company to Topeka.  Somehow, it's just not the same to "Topeka" instead of "Google".  And, does this now mean we have to strive for more "Topeka juice"?  That just sounds nasty!  And now we have to use Topeka Maps to find the locations of cities, businesses, etc, Topeka Bookmarks to tag our favorite sites, Topeka News to find out what's going on in the world … (12 comments)

virtual assistance for realtors: Unlike Chocolate, Blogs Last Forever! - 04/01/10 01:52 AM
Unlike chocolate, blogs last forever on the internet.  I recently received a comment on a post from March 2009, shortly after starting here in the Rain.  When I saw the "comment on your blog" notice, I didn't recognize the title of the blog post it was referring to.  So, I clicked on the link and, lo and behold, it took me back in time to March 2009.  In fact, the post that received the comment was a reblog of another post here in the Rain on widgets.  Very interesting.  So, whey did this person choose this particular post to comment on?  … (10 comments)
