The Lincoln County Farmers Market at Denver opened on May 1st. It will again be located at Rock Springs Elementary School on Highway 16. The Denver market will continue to operate on a Saturday only basis throughout the season.Last year, about sixty different vendors sold at the market. North Carolina's unemployment rate hit a record 11.1 percent in January, the highest since states revised the way they calculate unemployment in 1976. Businesses are moving into the Charlotte area and creating more job opportunities.
According to a report in The Charlotte Observer and News 9, Siemens Energy plans to expand its manufacturing plant for turbines and generators and to move part of its Canadian operations to Charlotte. The move could bring as many as 800 jobs. The North Carolina Commerce Department is expected to approve the deal Thursday morning. Siemens is headquartered in Germany.
