Day 30:  Happy 4th Birthday Peyton
We are a week into 2009 and it appears that there aren't a lot of buyers in my market so soon after the Holidays.  But we've got a whole year ahead of us and it is going to be great.
I'd like to take this opportunity to wish my oldest girl, Peyton, a very Happy 4th Birthday.  She got a Cinderella dress, crown and shoes for her birthday as well as several other things.  She also was surprised by a trip to Monkey Joes, a huge indoor playground full of gigantic inflatable slides, castles and … (4 comments)

Day 29:  Steps in the right direction or just a DORK?
Kim and I put all the kids in strollers and started our daily walk.  After about 30 minutes we stopped to take a drink of water.  That's when I asked Kim, "How many steps do you think we have made?"  She looked at me with that look.  You know the look.  "You're a DORK!"
I thought that it would be cool to be able to measure how many steps I took and how far I had traveled with my new pedometer.  I thought that it would be a way of holding myself … (2 comments)

Day 28:  Listings are coming in.
Twenty-eight days into "100 Days to Change" and I have added two new listings.  I'm totally stoked about it.  Now all I have to do is convert some listings to pendings and eventually closings.  After all, closings are what we need to get paid.  Does anyone know of somebody looking for a nice lot to build on in a golf course community in Wallace, North Carolina?  Let me know if you do.
Has anyone else noticed an increase in their business as a direct result of their proactive activities?  Feel free to post your results.  I'm … (0 comments)

Day 26:  Gone Fishing
Does anyone know anything about fishing?
Well if you don't, let me tell you a little bit about it.  You can't catch anything unless you put a hook in the water.
That's exactly what I'm doing with "100 Days to Change".  Every single day I go fishing.  Not for fish, but for real estate transactions.  My goal is to put as many hooks in the water as I can to catch as many real estate transactions as I can.
Think about it.  Are you going to the office every single day and waiting for the phone to … (9 comments)

Day 22:  Pedometer
Today I splurged and purchased a pedometer for five bucks.  What's a pedometer?  A pedometer is a small device that you fasten to your waist which is supposed to measure the distance you travel throughout the day.  Don't ask me how it works because I don't know.
Why did I get one?  I got one because the day after Christmas I stepped onto the scale and weighed in at 223 lbs.  That's not to good for someone 5'11".  I have to increase my activity level.  I have to "ramp it up".
If I'm going to increase my proactive … (4 comments)

proactive activities: Look Who's Talking About Active Rain - 12/30/08 03:13 AM
WWAY News Channel 3 ran a feature yesterday evening on me, Paul Hockaday, on how I am using Active Rain and "100 Days to Change" to market myself, promote my community, create a network and to ultimately create a change in my real estate business.  Here is a link:

Key Yessaad, Real Estate Web Trainer, has had an enormous impact on my real estate business plan.  Key has been instrumental in "opening my eyes" to the world of marketing on the internet and I thank him for introducing me to Active Rain.

Day 16:  Addison Riley's 3rd Birthday and Christmas Eve!
It's Christmas Eve and not a lot of work is going on around my house today for you see, it is also Addison Riley's Birthday.  I'm spending a lot of time with the family right now as I hope all of you are doing.
Although the clock is ticking and we are now Only 85 Days from our goal, you are not expected to work every single day.
Brian Buffini states that you must, "Win the Day."  How do you Win the Day?  In order to Win the Day all you have … (5 comments)

Day 15:  Someone asked me today, "How is the real estate market?"
"It's unbelievable," I replied.
I immediately saw their eyes open.  I could tell that I took them off guard.  Then I jumped right in and said, "It's a great time to buy."  Will they use me to buy some real estate?  I don't know.  But what I did was to start a buzz.  If you're not talking it then you're not doing it.  You've got to constantly promote yourself and always work towards closing.  After all, that's how we get paid.
What we are all doing right now is … (6 comments)

proactive activities: 90 Days to Change - 12/19/08 12:43 AM
Day 11:  BPOs and HRC work.  Is this a good way to generate leads and conduct business?  I think so.  Just don't get to involved with your time.  Try to get them done as soon as possible.  Asses the situation and make it happen.  I once heard a very successful Realtor say, "Some will, some won't, so what".  I try to keep that in mind when I do this work.  It's easy to get too wrapped up in this kind of work.  Just know that these activities are part of your pipeline and that you must concentrate on the activities that … (6 comments)

Day 10:  Hello All.  I'm seeing my activity increase.  I'm not sure if it is the push here at the end of the year or if it is due to all of the proactive activities that I'm doing.  Time blocking is definitely helping me to set the time aside to do my various proactive activities.  Has anyone else noticed an increase in you markets?  I've been trying to get a couple of REO deals squeezed in before the end of the year and it seems that they are moving really well.  I'm also very pleased with the networking being generated from "100 … (2 comments)

Day 5:  Today I met an attorney and passed him my card.  I don't think that I've ever met an attorney like him.  He was compassionate and seemed to care.  I look forward to the business that I will receive from him.  I also met a Realtor from Philly.  I gave him my card.  I look forward to any business that he may send me as well.
Talk it up.  No matter what you are doing.  Talk it up.  Get to know people and they will remember you.  Stay positive and up beat.  They will see how great you are.  When … (4 comments)

Day 4 was a fun day for me.  I decided to work a half day and then spend time with my wife and children at Disney On Ice.  What a great day!  Not only was I able to work with clients in the morning but I got to see those beautiful smiles on my children's faces as Mickey and Minnie Mouse pulled out onto the ice in their little red car.
I'd like to take this time to tell everyone what my 5 Things I Want to Change are:
1.  Improve my financial situation
2.  Spend more time with my family

proactive activities: 98 Days to Change - 12/11/08 04:21 AM
We are underway.  Day 3 has come and gone.  By now we should all have our journals, have our 5 Things That We Want to Change, have our statements of affirmation, have our message of empowerment/inspiration, have written down that we must keep a Positive Attitude at all times and have written down that we Must Persevere.  All of these items should be written on the first page of your journal.  Every single day, the first thing you do as soon as you role out of the bed is read out loud the first page of your journal.
The pages which … (2 comments)

proactive activities: 99 Days to Change - 12/09/08 04:19 AM
Today is Day 2 of "100 Days to Change" and we have had some great responses to the task of writing down the 5 Things You Will Change.  We've had some great statements of personal affirmation and empowerment statements.  We know that Positive Attitude is a must as we move forward.  We also know that we MUST Persevere.  It is just the begining of the 100 Days but we know that we will be tested along the way.  We know that at sometime we will feel like not doing the proactive activities and will want to do something else less productive.  … (19 comments)

proactive activities: Correction: "The Millionaire Real Estate Agent" - 12/03/08 02:26 AM
Thank you for setting me straight.  When I was speaking with Becky King of Keller Williams she said that this book was a must read.  By the immediate response that I have received from the ActiveRain community I know that Becky is genuine and truly a professional.  It's not too often that you find a fellow real estate agent working for another agency in the same market offering such helpful insight.  If there is anyone out there that would like to join a self-help, free networking group then check out "100 Days to Change".
