staging: Turning Up the Charm: Simple Guest Bedroom Makeover - 04/07/08 08:36 AM
I recently staged a home and here is one of the before & afters from the project.
It's not super dramatic, but there is something sparkling in those subtle changes that warms and enlivens the room.
It's owner-occupied and all the items used in this particular room were already in the home. (Don't you love that?!)
I'll be adding more imagery from this home and others soon!

staging: Time for a Remix - 03/18/08 09:45 AM
This week, I will not be following my usual blog format.  Too much going on to think seriously!  I'll hop back on the bandwagon next week, hopefully.

For now, I'd like to share with you a simple remix.  Ever go on a job interview and get that HR folder about the company?  Sure, you have!  What do you do if you don't get the job?  Such was the case with me recently.  I applied for a spectacular communications position at in my specialty A/E/C industry (architecture, engineering, construction) and was ready for the second interview with the VPs of the firm.

staging: New Blog Format or How to Blog and Keep Sane - 03/01/08 04:59 AM
A huge component of staging is organization and getting rid of clutter--and I figure, why not apply that to my blog? I've been blogging for just over a month now and the idea floodgate springs forth!  To keep it simple, for myself and readers, I'm going to start a "blog schedule" of posts. Basically, I've sorted through the types of things I am (or will be) blogging and realized they actually do fall into categories. So readers, cheer up!  Each weekday will now have a theme! (Don't you love a good theme?) Check it out:  Monday Morning Marketing MeetingOkay, an expensive … (12 comments)

staging: How I Became a Celebrity OR The Theory of Scratch 'n Sniff - 02/18/08 11:38 AM
Today I was busy dealing with a case of the Mondays (so much to do, so little time!), and didn't get my daily dose of rain until after 6 PM.  That's when I umped on my email and blog and discovered....I'D BEEN DISCOVERED!

Okay, to my credit, I am a published writer and was almost a television star.  (I turned down an offer to be in a commercial advertising a Mexican tienda...)  But even though I'm not on a Mexican-whoa-oh-radio  ad, I've been blessed with something truly special:  A HIDDEN GEM DESIGNATION!  Here I've been telling anyone that would … (16 comments)

staging: Taking BOLD Back to Basic: Calming Down a HOT Color - 02/01/08 01:32 PM
When can you go BOLD with color?

An all aqua room may be a bit much for your average home buyer.  But as an accent, it's surprisingly relaxing and absolutely refreshing!  How do you take a four walls like this and transform it into a "neutral?"  Simple, get rid of the rest of the color in the room.  Bright sheers get replaced with white linen panels.  Colorful bedding is replaced with a bleach-bright matelasse set.  The room's molding, doors, and ceiling fan are also stark white and the whitewashed floors help continue that clean aesthetic.
A little color goes a long … (6 comments)

staging: Martha’s at it again, with Blueprint - 01/31/08 12:26 PM
Martha Stewart, that Emily-Post-perfect steward of domestic life, has expanded her empire yet again with Blueprint magazine.  USAToday touts it as a “…how-to shelter magazine for the young-and-nesting.”1  Why I am just now getting hip to this?  (It came out in ’06!)The effortlessly chic format is reminiscent of my fave design magazine, domino.  In true Martha fashion, it’s got lots of DIY ideas and creative adaptive reuse tips.  Example:  the January/February issue has a Hollywood regency style shelf, made from a simple plank (think IKEA’s Lack) and decorative chains that hang and mount this pretty perch.  I’m considering creating something similar … (0 comments)
