military: LAST Chance for the $8000 & $6500 tax Credits, DON'T FORGET to see if you Qualify! - 01/11/12 05:37 AM
As we entered tax season, I have great news for military homebuyer’s and sellers who closed on their home purchases before June 30, 2011… You may qualify for the coveted $8000 First-Time Home-Buyer Tax credit or the $6500 Move-UP credit offer by the government the last few years. For many it is just a memory because the actual credits expired June 30, 2010. However, hidden in the tax law was the 1 year extension for military personnel and government officials who were deployed and/or on official government orders for at least 90 days during the period beginning after December 31, 2008 … (0 comments)

military: Barksdale AFB Military Recomended Apartments - 01/08/12 04:19 PM
Recently, I conducted an impromptu survey on the Barksdale Military Life and Information Facebook group to see what the most highly recommended apartments are for those PCSing to Barksdale AFB. Criteria for the list would be location, military friendly, and amenities.
Below are the top 5 apartment complexes as voted by current Barksdale AFB residents. (Note: I am just the messenger! I have never personally rented from these apartments, so this is not an explicit endorsement of any of them. They are not listed in any particular order)

military: Grant Program for Military First-Time Homebuyers - 07/26/11 04:18 PM
I came across a great program for military first-time homebuyers today, and I had to share it!  It is called the Dream Maker Grant from Pentagon Federal Credit Union (you do not have to be a member of the credit union to qualify).  Through this grant First-Time Homebuyers can get free money to use toward their closing costs and down payment.  To qualify you must be military (active, reserve, guard, or veteran), and must have a gross household income that is $55,000 or less (or a maximum of 80% of your community’s median income level).  You also must be a First-Time … (3 comments)

military: Resale Value: Military and New Construction - 07/15/11 06:33 AM
As a military spouse, I understand when my clients ask for a home with good "resale" value.  Though there are many factors that contribute to resale value, the one that always pulls the most concern is location, location, location! Over the next month, I am going to blog on resale value in the areas surrounding Barksdale AFB.  This is probably the most important factors in buying a home, right next to schools.

The first and most appealing areas to be aware of are newconstruction neighborhoods. They are very appealing and normally very desirable because of their location to new things; … (0 comments)

military: How the Air Force “Reduction in Force” (RIF) will affect you buying a home. - 06/08/11 07:27 AM
e other day I sat in on a presentation regarding the requirements for a VA Loan.  It dawned on me that the Air Force's Reduction in Force (RIF) is going to dramatically affect individuals, who were hoping to use the VA loan to purchase a home in the next year.  The basic criteria that made this come to my attention is your enlistment/commitment period.  Did you know that when you apply for a VA secured mortgage loan (as an active duty military member), you are required to provide evidence that you will remain in the military for at least one more year.  The … (0 comments)
