Governor Tim Kaine has announced a series of clinics designed to provide information to homeowners who may be facing foreclosure. These clinics are designed to to provide foreclosure prevention information. There will also be individual counseling sessions with certified housing counselors who can help to addres specific situations. Each clinic will last approximately 90 minutes. I have talked to a number of agents (all with different firms and who work in different markets) who have held open houses over the past two weekends. Without exception, all have reported an increase in traffic from open houses held before the holidays. Personally, I have seen formerly reluctant clients making offers on homes. This is huge. Over the past several months, even well qualified buyers seemed content to 'wait it out' and no one was really out looking. Now they are not only looking, but actually writing offers! I am working with a client in Northern Virginia who has recently moved here from out of state. She is in a great position to buy, but has a very specific idea of the type of home she would like, the area in which she would like to live, and the price that she would like to pay. I am sure I have said enough for the experienced realtors to know that she is going to have a tough time finding the house of her dreams! I probably spend more time answering the question, "what is going on with the Real Estate market?" than any other question. I own a small brokerage, so I am constantly looking for my own sources so that I am prepared each time this question is asked. If you haven't checked out the George Mason Center for Regional Analysis website, I would highly recommend it. The put together periodic Housing Reports, geared toward the Northern Virginia area.
