The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011 begins today at its new location, the West Potomac Park on the National Mall. What is the Solar Decathlon you ask? There are 18 teams participating in this event where each team constructs an energy-efficient solar powered home. These teams represent 13 states, 5 countries and 4 continents. The teams responsible for the construction will be on hand to answer your questions about new techniques and products. There are free shuttles running between the Smithsonian Metro Satation and West Potomac Park every 15 minutes from Friday, September 30, to Sunday, October 2, 2011. Last Saturday night, I took my husband and 15 year old son on a date to see Oklahoma! at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. It was great performance and well worth taking an evening or afternoon to see. The show, which will close on October 2, 2011, is performed in 'the round' (although the stage itself is square--I think you still call it 'the round.'). This makes for wonderful views from every seat. The performers enter from the four corners of the stage and perform all the musical numbers by rotating so that audience members can enjoy all the performers. The … (2 comments)
