The City of Carlsbad wants its older residents to know they have a low cost way to get a ride to a doctor's appointment, lunch with friends or the store with the city senior center’s transportation service.   The goal of the program, which arranges for about 400 transportation trips a month, is to make it as easy as possible for seniors to stay active, healthy and social.   "It's about friends, food and fun, and that's what we do here," he said. The Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation will hold the sixth annual Kayak Cleanup with the first launch at 7:30 A.M., and the last launch at 3:30P.M, September 24th & 25th, 2011. The event allows kayakers to access the lagoon that is normally closed to boating and simultaneously aids in preserving the lagoon habitat by removing shoreline trash. People may bring their own kayaks or use kayaks and safety equipment provided by event sponsors.

City officials hope revitalizing the area will boaster sales for the car dealerships, routing more sales tax revenue into the city's general fund. Car sales pour $6.5 million into city coffers at their peak in 2005. The city netted only $4.1 million last year. A 36% less than at the peak.

City of Carlsbad, California Seeks Street Maintenance With Lasers.

The city of Carlsbad recently used laser for road analysis to stay one step ahead in its street maintenance efforts. It gained a foothold in using a new software technology to pinpoint and address potential trouble spots. This was the first time the city used the laser camera array to collect cracking, rutting and roughness date.

Previous city wide pavement condition assessment occurred in 2001 prior to the availability of this technology --at that time all the pavement distress date was collected by trained technicians doing windshield survey.

On the first Saturday in June (June 4, 2011) the City of Carlsbad trail volunteers and the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation will partner to sponsor a cleanup of invasive plants along the trail at the north shore of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon located between Carlsbad Blvd. and the coastal rail line. (Work will not occur in or near the railroad right of way).
Participants should wear a hat, sunscreen, long pants and hiking shoes. Tools and supplies will be provided along with water, granola bars and fresh fruit.

The City of Carlsbad is almost finished with improvements to the city's storm-drain system as much of the infrastructure has reached or is near the end of its useful life.
The system renovation required digging up streets to replace old pipe some of which is crumbling, occasionally burdening residents.
New drainage has been installed at Chestnut Avenue, Madison Street between Carlsbad Village Drive and Arbuckle Place, Roosevelt Street near Beech Avenue and between Carlsbad Village Drive and Grand Avenue and Harrion Street south of Chinquapin Avenue.

A recent survey sanctioned by the city of Carlsbad found that most Carlsbad residents enjoy living in the city of Carlsbad and more than three fourths were confident in the city's government.
This survey was conducted by BW Research Partnership, Inc. They called 1,000 residents - including councilman Mark Packard who said he identified himself as a member of the City council.
