colored mushrooms: Can Fungus Predict The Weather

Received this note from one of my sellers. 'The definite sign of an early fall - when the indigenous mushrooms in my backside yard become multicolored, it usually means a cool period. Interesting, but they don’t turn the same color every year. Happy September!'
Have you had any experience with these fungus predicting the weather?
