maryland: Active Rain - Live Radio Show - Sunday ! - 06/28/08 03:40 PM
After reading  How to Keep More People in Their Homes and Avoid Foreclosure I called Richard Gayle to compliment him on his featured post.
We had a good conversation and while Richard was trying to figure out how to get his message out, I suggested  that he call the show!
Just look how many good comments he has on this post.  Do you  think this will make a good discussion? The host tomorrow is Dave Meurer with National Citi Mortgage. It will be interesting to have a lender address this subject. Please tune in!!

maryland: The CyberPros Take Pittsburgh - 04/30/08 01:37 AM
Only about four hours from home, Pittsburgh was our destination on Sunday. The CyberProfessionals group was gathering for our semi-annual meeting, and that meant lots of talk, lots of laughter, gigabytes of memory, and some of the good old fashioned kind of memories that you make when with people you enjoy. And, of course, some good eating to go with the good company.
On the way up from Baltimore I was able to catch up on some emails, clear out all my spam folders, and post on Active Rain. Thank goodness for wireless connectivity! About ½ an hour from home I … (10 comments)

maryland: Are You a Smartphone SmartUser? - 11/24/07 06:27 AM
At the end of the year I try to look at what I'm doing in my business and figure out if there's a better, easier, more effective way. With technology being such a large part of real estate these days, my computer and other devices get some serious attention.
I know that I could not be as effective as I am – as a solo agent – without all my tech tools, but especially my Treo.  The question is, am I getting everything out of it I can? I'm not sure, but on December 3 I'll find out.

That's the day I'm … (48 comments)

maryland: Baltimore, Maryland in January - A Great Time to Visit! - 11/21/07 02:07 AM
Okay, it's not Palm Beach or LA so you can't expect balmy weather. Baltimore is in the mid-Atlantic and that means we get chilly in January. But it's still a good time to visit, and I'm glad to have a chance to point out some of my favorite things about this city. Thanks to Margaret Harrington for asking!
There's no season for history, and Baltimore has plenty. O say can you see? Of course you can at Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine. In September 1814, the star-shaped fort was the site of the Baltimore of Baltimore. On a ship … (16 comments)

maryland: You Can Get There From Here - 11/18/07 04:16 AM
Having and using the GPS in my car has made a big difference for me. Now I can get most anywhere by just programming in the address. It simplifies traveling so much, and takes a lot of the stress out of getting around. What I want to do now is make it that easy for buyers to see the possibilities in the homes they are looking at, especially when they already have ideas about what kind of location they "need."
Buyers usually ask the "where is it?" questions, often with, "is it close to _____?" or "my kids need to go to __________," … (11 comments)

maryland: Accessible Housing Boom for Boomers..Pikesville, MD 21208 - 11/13/07 07:43 AM
It's no secret that the aging of Boomers will mean changing housing needs. This massive generation will include people who need accessible features in their homes, but won't want to give up convenience, style, and livability. Safety is always an issue, but no one wants to feel as if they are living in an institutional environment.
In Baltimore, one company has taken on the challenge. Accessible Housing Services bought a typical, small ranch house in the Pikesville area, and made changes that open the home up with options for the mobility-impaired and wheelchair users. I had a chance to see the … (19 comments)

maryland: A Different Kind of Tour in Rainy Baltimore,Maryland - 11/02/07 01:10 AM
It was pouring down rain when I  got the sign call on Rockridge Rd. It hasn't rained in Baltimore for months, but now when we finally had a good, hard, rain…someone was driving around looking at houses!
The one he called about had just gone to settlement, and he was disappointed when I told him that it was no longer on the market. Of course, it was then THE perfect house, the perfect location, the perfect price – everything he wanted. And, he was qualified for exactly what that house was going for.
An interested buyer is not someone you let wander … (23 comments)

maryland: Baltimore's Lyrical Concert Hall - 10/15/07 03:42 AM
In Baltimore's arts area there are plenty of choices – Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, The Maryland Institute College of Art, and The Lyric Opera House, plus other smaller venues. Visitors to Baltimore should hop the Light Rail and take the short ride north to this artful area.
We recently visited the Lyric, and had a chance to rediscover this jewel of a concert hall. It's a magnificent old hall that opened with a Boston Symphony Orchestra in October 1894. Over the years, it has been the site of everything from jazz concerts to boxing matches, famous speakers to cooking exhibitions, hypnotists to … (13 comments)

maryland: Now I'm a Basement Guru! - 09/03/07 08:38 AM
A couple of months ago I had a chance to talk about basements. Boring? Nope – finished basements are an opportunity to give a home that extra pizzazz and personality that can help it sell. In fact, that was the point of "Reinventing the Basement," one of the featured articles in the current issue of Maryland Distinctive Properties published by The Daily Record.
Journalist Carrie Oleynik found me through - of course - Active Rain. She asked about what kinds of things I have seen in basements over the years. What haven't I seen?!  As she says in the article, there … (21 comments)

maryland: The Delights of Dickeyville, MD - 08/29/07 01:04 PM
Most Baltimoreans have heard of Dickeyville as "somewhere west of the city." When you look at photos of the Victorian architecture, traditional old church, and white picket fences, it's easy to believe this historic neighborhood sits out in the country somewhere.
The surprise is that Dickeyville is tucked into Baltimore City itself, snuggled up against the Gwynns Falls that meanders down to the Patapsco, the Inner Harbor, and eventually the Chesapeake Bay.  Several mill towns sprang up around Baltimore in the 18th century drawing mill workers and managers.  Along the Gwynns Falls there were grist mills, paper mills, and woolen mills … (10 comments)

maryland: Clone-onials? I'll Sell Them But…. - 06/07/07 09:50 AM
Here in the Baltimore area market, so many homes are what I call "Clone-onials." You know, the lovely 4 bedroom, 2-1/2 bath, large family room, 2 car garage, Colonial-style house in a good school district. They can be anywhere from modest size to McMansions, but they often look as if some giant cookie-cutting machine spit them out into neat developments of cul-de-sacs. Now there's nothing wrong with these – they sell well, and I won't turn them down – but they aren't much fun, either.
What is fun is the challenge of selling an unusual property. When I started thinking about "Clone-onials," … (23 comments)
