silloway press: So Proud of My Friend, So Proud of My Publisher! - 11/30/09 10:11 AM
So Proud of My Friend, So Proud of  My Publisher!
Look back almost a year to December 2008 when I was celebrating the publication of my book Real Estate the Rome Way - my first book, Marti'sfirst book cover, and the first book for my friend Peg Silloway Silloway Press.
In just twelve months we are about to have a new celebration. In that short time, The Silloway Press has published eight books including Peg's own new book, The Cat Lover's Book of Days.  I think that's amazing!
Even if you are not a cat lover, you gotta look at this book. It's creative, it's … (14 comments)

silloway press: The Baltimore Book Festival - A Signing! - 09/21/09 03:16 AM

A year ago, I went to the very soggy Baltimore Book Festival and had a great time even though the liquid sunshine was intense. Back then, I was a soon-to-be published author. This year, I have a book Real Estate the Right Rome Way and a book signing slot!

This Friday through Sunday (September 25-27) at Mt. Vernon Place, the 14th annual Baltimore Book Festival will spread out from the 600 block of North Charles Street with books, authors, food, performances, and fun.
Again this year I'll be volunteering with my publisher, Peg Silloway of The Silloway Press, at … (12 comments)

silloway press: Lovin' Live Baltimore - 02/20/09 11:11 AM
Last evening was the big Live Baltimore reception and new website debut. The venue was gorgeous – Symphony Center in downtown Baltimore, just across from the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Real estate professionals came to network and learn more about what Live Baltimore does to encourage people to live in Baltimore City. People stopped at a large city map to find their homes in one of Baltimore's more than 200 neighborhoods. And right next to the map was…me! Live Baltimore had generously offered to include a book signing in the evening's festivities, so there I was, signing and selling copies of Real … (26 comments)

silloway press: Art, Friendships, Blogging....These Are a Few Of My Favorite Things - 01/25/09 05:28 AM

It has taken me two years to give my friend a gift, but finally Tatiana has joined Active Rain. And now our community has gained another talented artist. When you look at her work along with mARTi's, you'll see why I saw a connection between them and wanted this very talented and accomplished marketer to join.
A couple a years ago, I was drawn to mARTi's work, especially his violin. Besides being a talented ceramic artist, Tatiana is also a musician. She played the cello for many years and held chamber music concerts in her historic church/gallery/studio in Maryland. When … (5 comments)

silloway press: Interview with a Real Estate Rock Star... Margaret Rome - 12/06/08 08:06 AM
Marti was fantastic to work with for my book cover...and now I can almost touch it! The books are being shipped from the printer soon and we hope to have them for signing and shipping just in time for the holiday rush.

.

A few months ago, one of the rock stars of real estate asked me to do the cover art for her new book. That was the beginning of a power relationship between three "Type E personalities".
In case you don't already know, the rock star I'm talking about is Margaret Rome and since her … (14 comments)

silloway press: Chatting with That Interview Guy...Let's Sell Michael Krisa's House ! - 11/18/08 11:45 AM

He really knows how to put you at ease, That Interview Guy. Michael Krisa had set up an interview for yesterday morning, but a snowstorm changed his plans with a power outage (he's in Ontario, Canada.) That gave him a chance to get some wonderful snow photos - like the one at left.  Later in the day, when we got the interview in, I remembered that Michael is a natural at leading a conversation and making it fun.
Michael reminded me that we met years ago. Since then he's learned about the Type E personality, and so he understands me. … (19 comments)

silloway press: The Closer It Gets, the Harder It Is to Wait! - 11/17/08 08:15 AM
It's done, it's really done. Now we're waiting for the printer to make magic and turn all those hours and words into a book. And now that we know it's just a few weeks away, my publisher has a web page for the book where people can order signed copies. I love it!

In case you can't read that tiny print, the page is here: http://sillowaypress.com/pages/RomeWayBook.html. You know that I'll be saying more when the books come in. It's very hard for this Type E to wait!

silloway press: It Was a Sunny Evening in Maryland - 10/22/08 02:08 PM
There was sunshine and conversation and laughter in Timonium, MD, last evening. The Mays Chapel North office of SunTrust Bank hosted a wine and cheese networking event for real estate agents, and invited me to come talk about my book. SunTrust Mortgage has a dynamo Mortgage Consultant in Sharon Clatterbuck who comes up with all sorts of creative marketing ideas, and she's the one who organized the fun event.
Timonium is north of Baltimore and this was a great opportunity to meet some new people and reconnect with others I haven't seen in a long time. My publisher, Peg Silloway, was with … (8 comments)

silloway press: Liquid Sunshine and Books in Baltimore - 09/29/08 03:58 AM
Books bring people out every year to Mount Vernon Place in Baltimore at the end of September. On a sunny day, the Baltimore Book Festival will be packed with book lovers from far and wide. On Saturday…well, we had a lot of "liquid sunshine," but the festival took place anyway, and though attendance was down, we were there.
At first, you could have found us (my publisher, Peg Silloway, and me) in the MidAtlantic Book Publishers Association booth, talking with visitors about publishing and handing out information packets on the books published by association members. In every packet was a Real … (9 comments)

silloway press: I Finished My Book! Now To Finish the Rest…. - 09/14/08 02:50 PM
I just reached an important milestone – the chapters of my book are done!
At least for now, that is. My publisher tells me there's lots more to do, but I'm celebrating getting to the point where there's no more writing, just rewriting, for Real Estate the Right Rome Way.
The Type E in me says we're done, and I'm ready to have that finished book in my hand now. Peg says, "Not so fast." Next stop is the professional editor, then designing the pages, creating an index, and finally the printing. Of course, I already have a fantastic cover … (30 comments)

silloway press: The Art of Marketing You and Me and Them - 05/31/08 04:20 AM
My friend Peg and I sat by the window for lunch in a restaurant overlooking Columbia's largest lake. It was a perfect afternoon, gentle breeze, and sun flickering through the trees. As we ate, we noticed a young couple arrive and settle on a bench, obviously very much in love. With them came two men, one with a video camera and the other with a still camera with a lens more than a foot long – obviously a pro. Throughout our lunch they talked, posed, and hugged each other. The photographer moved around for different angles, and the videographer had them talking and … (53 comments)
