win: One Day... The Rome Way - 11/30/16 07:14 PM

My days are good & productive by keeping these three things in mind...

#1- Don't let unimportant things or unimportant people become important!

#2-Don't do upset!

#3- What's Important Now.

Since no two days are ever the same, let's talk about today.
It started when my iPhone alarm went off early this morning, a quick check of emails and a one hour appointment at the gym with my personal trainer.

Looking at my phone log, this evening, I had taken 21 calls including setting up a listing appointment, a contract review, quite a few personal calls, one from an appraiser, a former client referring a friend, several from my current sellers, … (7 comments)

win: Finding Time To Blog Each Day - 08/03/16 10:52 AM

When speaking with other professionals, I amquestioned about finding time to blog.

Here are a few of my responses:
'That's a nice looking outfit. When did you go shopping?''Love your new hair style, when did you go to the stylist?''You went out to lunch today. Where did you find time?'                           'Shiny car. When did you get it detailed?'

After a few of these questions, and a grin, my point is made.
You make time for what's important!
As mentioned on page 15 of my book  Real Estate the Rome Way  WIN is an  important acronym that works to focus my concentration. It stands for What's Important Now. The more you use these three words, the more you understand … (16 comments)

win: I Could Have Waited - 11/03/14 11:08 PM
 I could Have Waited

Arriving at my new listing, the first thing I did was grab a rake...thinking I will  clear the deck and push the leaves under the railing in no time.
Uh uh....not enough space.
They would have to be lifted over the railing and that was more time and energy than I was willing to expend.

The photographer was already there and in order to get the
kind of pictures to show off this property, we would need a
landscaping service.
An executive decision was made … (22 comments)

Baltimore's ActiveRain MeetUp
Is Always Fun

We have had many MeetUps, since I joined many years ago, and they just keep getting better. This week's Baltimore MeetUp at Bare Bones in Ellicott City was filled with good conversation and lots of good food. We had our own private room and a wonderful server, Kim.

Look at this wonderful group of ActiveRain members who are not only colleagues but also friends. We used to need name tags but no more. Everyone knows everyone! We are all very busy real estate professionals but we make time for what … (28 comments)

win: What's It Take To Be A Successful Agent - 07/11/14 11:57 AM

What's It Take to Be a Successful Agent

There are many things that go into making a successful agent. Over the years I have taken on many challenges, talked to people and went after special homes that  I wanted to sell.
Loved the challenge when someone said that a house could not be sold because of the uniqueness or location.
Those are my favorites to sell.

I became a solo broker after  many years with the big box company.
WIN is one of the secrets to my success.
What's Important Now.
Everyday I find a use … (11 comments)

win: My Blogging Dilemma - 04/24/14 02:36 PM
My Blogging Dilemma
What is a blogging dilemma?

A dilemma is a situation in which a choice must be made between alternative courses of action.

This was a busy day showing properties, being interviewed for listings and finalizing details for my settlements.
So what's the dilemma?
Do I write an offer on a property that just came on the market?
OR

Do I write a blog and make my comments?
So what do you think I did?
Since I kind of live by WIN=What's Important Now...you guessed it, I wrote the offer, had it signed and sent … (17 comments)

Finding Time To Blog

When speaking with clients, agents and other professionals ..I am frequently asked.. How do you find time to blog?

Here are a few of my responses 'Gee you look really nice, great looking outfit. How did you have time to put yourself together for this appointment?' 'Your hair looks great, when did you have time to go to the salon?' 'Did you take a shower today? How did you make time?'  'You ate today. When did you find time?' 'Gas in your car?  You get the idea. After a few questions … (68 comments)

'Clear To Close' Are Meaningful Words! Here are some meaningful words that I like to use.  NEXT,  WIN= What's Important Now?    and  I Don't Do Upset!Today's favorite line is Clear to Close. We had our Final Walk-Through  and settlement scheduled for Wednesday at 2 PM. Last-minute follow-up with lender and title company for updates... these were not the words I wanted to hear, "We are waiting for a "couple more bits of information from the buyer"!  Uh oh.. red flag!  Can we close on time?
A quick call to my sellers to alert them of a possible delay. Why wait till the last minute to … (11 comments)

win: Here Kitty Kitty ...and Real Estate - 03/18/09 01:17 AM
Last weekend I did something even my best friend would never expect: I went to a cat show. A what? Yes, a cat show. The Cat Fanciers Association had their gathering at the Pikesville Armory, and so off we went.
You know by now that I love my front yard aviary and my squirrel feeding stations (also called bird feeders), but I don't have other pets. Once in a while we host Erica's cat, but she's getting on in age and sleeps most of the time (the cat, not my daughter!)
At the show, I soon found my favorite cat – mink brown, but of … (13 comments)

win: Turning Around IS an Option! - 03/09/09 12:07 PM
One day while in a meeting I had a call from an out of state agent who wanted to know if I would be interested in a referral. Her clients needed to move to Baltimore by May and had a "bad" experience with another agent. She quizzed me on my internet savvy and I suggested she email me the clients' info so we could decide how best to proceed. I also suggested she "Google" me, but I am not sure she understood what that meant.
It was a couple of days before the potential buyer contacted me, and it turned out they … (78 comments)

win: A Quick Three-Hour Lunch in Baltimore! - 11/16/08 12:12 PM
What happens when friends who haven't seen each other for a year - both real estate agents, one from Santa Barbara, CA and one from Baltimore, MD - get together? You go for a quick lunch.
Well, it sure seemedquick, but the watch confirmed that it was over three hours! I met Diana Fornas through our mutual friend, and top real estate agent, Ira Serkes in Berkeley, CA. Diana and I had a delightful lunch at Mama's On the Half Shell, a Baltimore oyster house. We shared conversation, personal stories, and decadent triple chocolate cheesecake dessert.
Diana is getting involved with … (12 comments)
