Being the daughter of a Veteran the Homes for Heroes program speaks volumes to me. My father was actually killed on a motorcycle coming home on leave when I was 3 years old and so I never got to know the Hero that he was. I worked in the medical industry for 20 years and know the passion that it takes to care for the sick. A Michiana Army Sergeant and his wife were just trying to give what little they had to their children during the holidays, then along came a Christmas miracle. To pull off any good surprise, you have to lie ... just a little Homes for Heroes has been working with Army Sergeant Edward Marshall and his wife Jessica. Jim McKinnies told them to come by Tuesday to sign some papers as the couple works toward purchasing their first home. McKinnies had something else up his sleeve. SPOKANE, Wash. Homes for Heroes kicked off in Spokane Thursday, giving local heroes – military personnel, firefighters, law enforcement, teacher and health workers – the opportunity to get discounts when buying and selling homes. The program gives back 25 percent of the realtor's commission to the heroes as a way of saying thank you to them. Red Door Real Estate and Heritage Home Loans have teamed up to bring Homes for Heroes to Spokane.
