Rock Creek Park's Pierce Mill is reopening today, with restorations completed. It will be opened to the pubic on weekends between 10 AM and 4 PM.
This wonderful old stone structure is located at the corner of Tilden Road and Beach Drive, right on the Creek.
When I took this photo yesterday, the leaves were just beginning to change. I love the way they look against the old stone struture.

When I first moved to Washington back in the 1970's one of my neighbors suggested that we take a hike to Rock Creek Park's Pierce Mill. It is the last of eight mills build along Rock Creek in the 1800's. By 1980, it was still operating, and they actually sold flour that they made on the site.
The mill has been closed for several years, and is currently undergoing some major renovations (yes, your stimulus money at work).
