business coach: DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION IN THE WORKPLACE WILL IMPROVE YOUR ROI - 10/12/13 02:42 PM
Would you agree that having an engaged and motivated workforce is good for your business? If you answered yes I would ask you what you are doing to engage your staff and get more success for everyone. Let’s face it; people do business with people that they trust. In addition, employees want to work for people that they trust. Engaged employees will create more success and lead to more loyal customers.
Diversity and Inclusion is really all about engaging employees and customers for more success. In a previous blog BRIDGING THE GENERATION GAP BY MANAGING DIFFERENCES I addressed generational differences which … (4 comments)

business coach: THE BRANDING IRON – A NEW RESTAURANT MAKING ITS MARK IN PEEKSKILL, NY - 10/02/13 12:48 PM

There is a new restaurant in Peekskill, NY and it is making its mark.  The owner is Tana McGuire who has owned the Tuscan Grill in Briarcliff Manor.  Now she is bringing her hospitality and great service to Peekskill.  The Branding Iron serves great American food in very generous portions.

The Branding Iron restaurant serves great burgers, wings, steaks, and great sandwiches.  The picture above is a generous serving called the Kitchen Sink.
On Saturday nights you will find Tana visiting the tables and making sure that everyone is having a great dining experience.  She is a great hostess.  … (5 comments)

business coach: RESISTING CHANGE CAN BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR BUSINESS - 09/21/13 11:34 PM
If you ask someone how easy it is to change you might get several different answers. For the stalwarts out there you will hear loud and clear, “I don’t like change.” Others will tell you that change is good and that they like change but in many causes they might subtlety resist change in themselves while advocating it in others.
I have a question for you. Has anything is your business changed in the last several years? I would be surprised if you answered no. Many industries, professions, and jobs have been literally turned upside down. Those who have survived … (5 comments)

business coach: IS EMPLOYEE DISENGAGEMENT HURTING YOUR BUSINESS? - 07/21/13 02:25 PM
I remember working with a CEO, who when asked the question how many people work here would reply, “Oh about half.” Although that may be a funny wise crack comment, on a serious note the Gallup organization reports that it is only one third. Should you be concerned? The best way to illustrate the cost employee disengagement is with this story.
I recently did a similar survey for an organization. This organization provides onsite catering and event services. Their requirements for success are a providing good service, great food, consistency, and a great guest experience. The owner and his son were … (0 comments)

business coach: ACHIEVE POSITVE RESULTS BY BEING POSITIVE IN YOUR COMMUNICATION - 02/16/13 12:01 AM
I have been working with two leaders of an organization.  They have related several problems but they all had one source.  We can’t get the right people to work for us.  I spent some time interviewing them as well as a sample of people in their organization.  Wow, what a disconnect.  They are desperately looking for success.  The employees also want the organization to be successful.  That is where the similarity stopped.  This father and son team could not convey the goals of the organization and they were not even communicating completely the upcoming projects.  The staff was frustrated.  The father … (7 comments)

business coach: WHAT IS THE BEST METHOD OF MARKETING MY BUSINESS FAQ & POST #3 - 06/01/12 11:29 AM
Business Owners are looking for that silver bullet.  Unfortunately, that silver bullet does not exist.  We hear are about having a web site, search engine optimization (SEO), Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, and other social media.

The fact is that these things alone may work for a business that is a commodity.  If you sell branded merchandise people know about it and want to find it fast.  Hence, I always use the Internet to find the best price on electronics, computers, and software.

Few of us fall into that category.  Most of us deliver value which in harder to measure.  Our … (2 comments)

business coach: WHY WOULD YOU HIRE A BUSINESS COACH FAQ & POST #1 - 05/31/12 05:49 AM
There is a difference between a consultant and a coach.  Which one do you need?  You should know the difference before you hire either one.
The best way of explaining the difference is by example.

Suppose you are teaching a child to ride a bicycle.  If you were to take the consultant approch you would start with PowerPoint sides explaining the aerodynamics and balance.  Then you would instruct the child step by step on what to do next.  A consultant will analyze your business and show you what you are doing wrong and show you how to correct it.

business coach: Double Whammy: The Effects of Procrastination - 05/28/12 01:06 PM
Here are some thoughts on procrastination recently shared with me by one of my Affiliates, Tammy Kohl

Procrastination is something that we all have to confront and deal with from time to time. One of the most obvious effects of procrastination is the failure to reap the rewards that would … (3 comments)

business coach: How are you dealing with all the changes? - 09/10/11 07:10 AM
No one can deny that the last several years have been challenging for all businesses.  Many industries, professions, and jobs have been literally turned upside down.  Those who have survived did so because they had learned to do things differently.  As you have heard, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

If that is the case, why do people resist change?  Why do people continue to do the same things and expect to get a different result?

I would like to suggest four reasons. As business owners, we need to understand … (8 comments)

If you live in the Westchester County, New York area you may have seen the article in the Journal News on Saturday, August 27th.  (I know, you may have been distracted preparing for Irene)

business coach: WOULD YOU BENEFIT FROM HAVING A COACH - 08/22/11 07:05 AM
Have you wondered whether you would benefit by having a coach?  Here is some information on what coaching is and what it is not.  Is it right for you?
Coaching relationships vary considerably.  There are life coaches, sports coaches, health coaches, business coaches, and so forth.  Here is some information on the nature of coaching, its benefits, and how it varies from other type of consulting.
Sometimes people confuse coaches with traditional consultants.  They might ask a coach for advice.  However, a coach’s role is not to provide answers or solutions.  Instead a coach helps the client develop their own potential.  If you … (6 comments)

business coach: NETWORK YOUR WAY TO MORE BUSINESS SUCCESS - 08/12/11 02:45 PM
Can networking really lead to more business?  The answer to that question is, "it depends".

Yes it will if you have a strategy and goals prior to your networking activities.  Unfortunately, many business owners and sales people have been to events with no plan and have don a poor job of networking, leading them to believe that networking is a waste of both time and money.  However, when done correctly, networking can bring you in a wealth of business.  Most sales people and business owners will readily admit that referrals are the largest part of their business.

If you want to earn business … (15 comments)
